  • It's cool no? Hope more of them spring up

  • I am guessing it's from the London Fields bike shop?

  • Looks like a Cyclehoop installation, probably commissioned by the council http://www.cyclehoop.com/products/public-bicycle-pump

  • I think that there is one of them in Wimbledon too, but I've not seen it myself yet.

    Nope, just council installing them.

  • bets on how long it'll be before the local thugs trash it
although it does look quite solid
hopefully one of them will break a toe trying to kick it

    Fixed.

Cool idea. I wonder if the head fits discs... #regretsbuyingrennkompressor

  • Presta or Schrader... or does it have an interchangeable head?

  • I used it presta style.. didn't check if you could change it..

  • The head is similar to the Bontrager one, the Bonty one are pretty flimsy, but can be used with both Presta and Schrader.

  • It's already broken, I was looking at it the other night. There's also one by bike shop at Lock 7 at the end of Broadway market

  • i win
now who did i put the bets on with again

Cyclehoop took it away a while ago to either repair it or upgrade it (can't remember which). Durability is, of course, a key criterion for these things. Give them time to 'bed in'. London's quite new at this 'cool features for cycling' thing, and with more experience, people will undoubtedly respect public infrastructure more.

  • There is one in brixton as well, its a great Idea and I hope more of them start popping up

  • if you see thugs tyring to trash it put the connector in their mouth and pump them up to 220psi imo

  • FALSE.

Those pump cannot go more than 160psi.

  • that not a very long term investment - the pump will probably b outdated in the next 5 years then ed (psi wise)

    jokes thread

  • Not a bad thing if they are reliable. Looks good too.

  • Hi guys, thanks for all the comments.

We installed it (Cyclehoop) for Hackney council, and there are others dotted around London.

The ones in Hackney are the 2nd generation pumps - I designed the original one over a year ago and they were installed in Lambeth and City of London. The new ones are experiencing some teething issues and we will be upgrading some parts this week (internal connections kept popping and we will change the external valve - we currently use the topeak smarthead and this will be changed to a standard two hole valve connector)

I've also created a map which you can access on your iphone via a QR tag on each pump http://www.cyclehoop.com/publicbikepump

Any feedback welcome, email info@cyclehoop.com or dm me.

    Cheers

    Anthony

  • What exactly is the point of this?, i think i'm missing it. Am i to assume people go cycling with flats and cycle to this street pump to pump up their tyres? Or is it in case you get a puncture, repair the puncture only to find out you forgot your pump (which i think is quite unlikely if you didn't forget to bring a spare inner tube or puncture kit)

    Excuse my stupidity :p

  • ^ I worked at the Free Cycle Parking enclosures in Hyde Park (provided by Cyclehoop) during the Olympics, we had a pump that was for the public to use and you wouldn't believe how many people asked to use it; running your tires at ridiculously low psi seems more common than you'd think (and it was also good for people who happened to get a flat in the area and only had a crappy hand pump with them)
