  • Howdy.

I've been given the arduous task of organising a weekend in Europe for myself and 3 mates. The sole intention of the weekend is to get drunk and catch up...

So far, Bratislava and the majority of Germany has caught my eye.

Another cheap option in terms of getting there, is Norway/Denmark/Sweden...although I've heard horror stories on the price of beer and it's apparently difficult to get into anywhere if you're not local or even drunk?

Any suggestions are welcome (location wise).

  • greece/croatia. unless its not that type of holiday

  • Riga is a brilliant place for a weekend. Very pretty, lovely people, good clubs and casinos
And you can shoot automatic weapons in the KGB bunker there.

  • Not sure, was thinking of a Fri-Sun binge in all honesty.

Basically, I've just whacked the dates into Skyscanner and we've agreed on £65 each...location will remian a secret for the other three untill the airport.

Here's a rough idea of the options.

  • Cheers for that. I think the flights are a little out of budget for Riga/Split.

Anyone been to Bremen or Frankfurt?

  • Sod getting drunk and catching up. Do something much more 'exciting'...

Go to Hamburg and see this: http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/

  • Been to Riga, Hamburg, Bremen, Frankfurt. Riga was the most fun but it was a stag do. Hamburg was good fun (solo + hostel peeps).

  • You don't say when you are going - if it is in the next couple of weeks, then there are plenty of nice places with great weather. If you are doing some forward planning for later in the year then you'll possibly want / get different recommendations.

For the record, if Copenhagen is out of budget, I love Berlin and think it great year round. It's still cheap and there is so much to do.

  • Berlin is great. Yet to get to Copenhagendas..

  • Cheers ovp. As in Spice Girls, Mel B?

    Winner.

  • Sorry, first weekend in October. Either Thurs or Fri - Sunday.

  • Frankfurt is OK, got a good old town bit and great kebabs but it is the financial capital of Germany to maybe not what you are looking for.

  • Hmmmm. Any part of this not fit the bill?

  • Ghent or Bruges

  • Ghent or Bruges

    What's Brugge like?

  • Nice, though more touristy than Ghent.

Considered this, but flights to Munich are pretty expensive that weekend. Even tried looking at flying close to it and getting a train in...but no joy.

Cheapest parts to go to are Bremen/Frankfurt.

So far, I'm thinking Brugge or somehow getting to Munich.

  • Nice, though more touristy than Ghent.

For a weekend on the beers, which one is better or is it much over muchness and I need to stop being so picky?

  • Gent all day long.

Has a seedier side that Bruges doesn't have.

  • I've been to Ghent a lot more. It has lots of scope for getting wankered. Brugge is further away from Brussels and more expensive and touristed like I said.

  • Gent is a living, working city with a university. Bruges is a museum.

  • Alternatively, rent the movie In Bruges, get in a few cases of Delerium Tremens and stay at home. You won't know you haven't been there and you will save a few quid.
