  • Possibly a bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any recommendations on where to get a decently tailored OTP tweed jacket?

I've often seen decent-looking stuff in Ede and Ravenscroft, and that'll probably be my first port of call, but I'd like to try out a few tailors before buying.

  • check out Guy Hills at Dashing Tweeds, website will direct you there
    lovely man,
    lovely clothes
    some great new fabrics here

  • Well budget is everything. If money is no object then Huntsman will produce something superlative.

If you want to spend lots less then head to David Saxby in Putney. Next door to him is his second-hand shop Old Hat where I picked up a beautiful Huntsman tweed jacket for £120 or so.

Cordings in Picadilly specialise in country clothing and have lots of tweeds.

Hackett used to but they have gone a bit fashion these days.

  • Blimey - that was rapid. Thanks.

  • Huntsman on Saville Row.

Expect a modified OTP jacket to be in the region just shy of £1k.

  • Gah -too much for me, unfortunately.

I'm hoping to get away with less than £400.

  • You can still find that, just not on Saville Row.

Dashing Tweeds can help here, they have some OTP items. And if you can find a jacket that fits you could try the other country wear shops around Jermyn St and Piccadilly such as Cordings. But note that a lot of country wear is expected to be worked in, and generally comes up larger and less fitted than the hunting wear.

Thanks. The 3-button hacking jacket looks just the sort of thing.

  • have a look in m&s on oxford street - might not be the season for it but last time i was there they had a good selection of decent quality, traditional sports jackets.
probably more reasonably priced than tailors with a reputation to sell.

  • Thanks. I'm lucky to be a fairly regular shape and so I can get away with some high street OTP - T M Lewin is almost exactly my bespoke measurements, but I've definitely found that there's worth in more expensive tailoring that goes beyond paying for a reputation.

I'm not a snob at all, though - and M&S make decent suits for incredible VFM. I'll see what they have to offer.

  • there's a good mens shop in ealing, was in there earlier, and they have loads of tweed jackets. and they do tailoring

  • You cant beat harris tweed, just head to a charity shop.

I bought a great (saville row) suit at the second hand place, which I got married in. Definitely recommended.
But surely that's Fulham, Putney being south of the river?

Harris tweed is the be all and end all.
But the cut is the thing -really.

  • If harris tweed doesn't fit, you are not a man yet.

  • Place on Portobello Road, just up from Falafal King, where the road and railway crosses over, has the biggest selection of Harris Tweed I've seen. And always the best stuff. Usually perfect. Not tatty. About £80 for a jacket.

  • Only open a few days a week, though.

  • i only just saw this but it seems you've got it covered.

  • Got to love this place...

  • Top Man have just launched a tweed jacket, about £80.00 I think.

Won't be the best quality obvs....

  • and probably won't be tweed either

  • or a jacket.
