Shimano to Campagnolo conversion on hope hub

Posted on
  • I just got a zipp 440 that is built on a what i'm assuming is a hope mono rear hub with what looks like a shimano body. My 10speed campag casette wont fit.

Trying to wrap my head around if its possible to change the body from the slightly larger shimano body to a campagnolo one.
But im new to all this so I cant seem to find any good info or products for this.

Very pleased if someone could point me in the right direction. thanks!

  • Why don't you call Hope and ask them. They are a UK company after all. I have found them to be quite helpful on the phone.

  • You can just change the cassette body for a shimano one as I dont think a campag one will fit,, Use a shimano cassette but take it apart and replace the Shimano spacers with campagnolo ones..works perfectly.. just check that the hub is not a 135mm one, if it is you will have to shorten the spacer on the none gear side and also the axle by 5mm...

  • a shiftmate might be easier - its a roller that sits on the cable behind the rear mech and adjusts the cable pull.

  • To add you would need to buy a 10 speed shimano cassette as well instead of a freehub swap out

  • Looks like a Ti ? I've got a set from late 90s, sick hubs, spin forever, epic quality.

the body is just held on with an O-ring. Wrap a small ish flat screwdriver in electrical tape and prize the body away from the hub flange, once its about 5mm out, it will just come away by hand, but stop right there, now put your other hand around the gap that is opening up as you will need to catch 3x pawls & 3x pawl springs.
Hope will still have Ti bodies for campag someplace I have no doubt, if not they will just whip one off a machine.
They are sexy hubs though, mine are ~15years old , both on original bearings + cassette body (machined titanium), only thing its needed is ONE single pawl spring and about 3 regreases of the mechanism. Use the best quality light weight synthetic grease you can get hold of.

  • Or perhaps an Ambrosio cassette? Shimano splined wiith Campag spacings!

will give this a try first. Serious doubts about using a £30 casette but its worth a try. I didnt know that merely spacing the rings was possible to use shimano rings on a campagnolo system. Would have thought the pitch in the links was different.

    Thanks everyone, solid advice!
