For Sale: Garmin Edge 705

  • Purchased second hand on ebay for circa £160 not even a year ago. Unsure what they go for in today's market.

Comes with a mount, no HR, no cadence (I'm keeping the cadence monitor and heart rates can GTFO). Cadence sensor can be got for £30 new I believe.

In precise the same cond' as I purchased it, couple of scrapes to the screen but nothing that renders anything difficult to view. I've loaded OSM maps for the UK (with contours so you can see those hills coming!) on 1gb card and have a 2GB card with the rest of europe on it.

edit: also comes with the charger and a cable to connect to computer, plus original install disc (i think hunts around house)

Will also come loaded with many of the sportive routes around London and all the TNRC routes so feel free to use it as a guide to London's best rides :)

    £130 ONRO

PS. I'm selling as I'm finally going to shell out for an 800. They have come down in price enough for me now (at circa £260 for head unit only).

  • Good price, and good upgrade, I just got one and they definitely don't disappoint..

  • What sort of level of detail do you get on the maps? A roads, B roads, tiny little country lanes? Sorry if it's a stupid question - I've never had a Garmin.

  • Oh wow very good offer tempted.

  • it depends on the maps you have available but my OSM maps show all marked road types plus public footpaths, trails and bridleways. I'm not sure about the same level of detail on the continent in general but, when using it to drive across Italy to a tiny campsite in the middle of the Umbrian mountains (Sibili national park) the Garmin (on OSM maps) knew every turn, tunnel and toll over the 300k journey.

  • I would wager these maps are considerably more detailed than those offered by Garmin as their consumer mapping was done back in the early 000's and hasn't had an update since. Whreas OSM is updated daily by a vast community of users both professional (Ordanance Survey) and enthusiast (ramblers associations and suchlike).

I know this because my friend runs the open street maps project from a secret broom cupboard location in London (true story).

  • It's not so much secret as lost.

  • Sold to El Diablo on a gentleman's agreement he will pay next week.

scoots over to amazon to purchase an 800

  • Cheaper at handtec.....

  • Ben, I meant the 800.

  • Ben, I meant the 800.

ah, apologies, my immediate concern was making sure I had offered el diablo here a fair price. I'll probably cancel this order with amazon then. Thanks!
