In the spirit of authenticity I will keep it to eight, which tbh is sort of like picking my favourite child but makes me dig deep for what I really must have. My list is constantly changing and depends on what I am listening to at the moment, but here is what it looks like now.
Velvet Undergound, Live 1969
Pharoah Sanders, Karma
Guided by Voices, Isolation Drills
John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman
The Meters
Peek-a-Boo, Best of NRBQ 1969-1989
Getz/Gilberto, Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto, 1963
Vampires, Cowboys, Spacemen and Spooks, the Very Best of Joe Meek InstrumentalsKeeping it to eight means leaving out rap/punk/garage favourites, but thems the breaks. I get to bring a book to my island, so I chose
Sorry OP my musical evolution ended in 2001 and there aren't many revelations here, but there you have it.

I was wondering if this would happen.
Was this thread automatically melded with the other or was it moved by the man?
I guess I should have used some other title, but as far as I know Desert Island Discs refers to music, not to what one would take to survive (apparently anything can make that list) on a deserted isle.
Oh well, there has been a fantastic response regardless, thanks to all who have added their lists to the mix. There is much research for me to do... -

The Lester Bangs book is a a fine collection of gonzo journalism/music criticism if you are into that kind of thing.

Yes, Jeez that's right up my strasse, good list
This thread is a request for albums that are keepers for you.
No such thing as a guilty pleasure, because you're being honest about your choices, k?
I get that this may seem kind of close-ended, in that you post once and that's it, however, I'm starting this thread to find albums that I may want to have in my collection; my thread, my parameters.
You're free to modify your list over time, and the number of albums is up to you, but let's try to keep it under 50.
As evidenced by my own list, greatest hits packages and compilations are allowed.
I'll start with (in no particular order) this list of 26 albums.
