To be fair, the 2012 Sora is being replaced by the 2013 Tourney.
2013 Sora have a similar design to the 2011 Tiagra (but likely to be downgraded in quality).

^^ I quite like the green, reminds me of an All City Nature Boy I had to sell.
I do admit the green works better as a solid color on steel tubes though.

Could be the stage where an alu bike costs more to produce that a carbon bike (if going for the cheapest example of both materials) so whatever crappy group-set could be had on an alu bike is now on a carbon entry level bike.

Trend predictions:
Cross bike armageddon (every other commuter who used to ride an allez now will have a tricross)
Hipsters will mostly be riding decent old mtbs
Lowrider racks will be next year's saddle bag
Couriers on 4k BMCs
Touring bikes will be hip
Roadies will continue to be utter cunts -

what is the rate of inflation for bikes over the last 10 years ?
seem like prices have shot up pretty rapidly and the quality is going down
much like society itself over the last 100 years -

You'll be demanding an end to near slavery in Chinese factories next.

My opinion .. Consumer demand is now driven by "is it carbon?" so mass production is designed to meet that demand. Therefore I would suggest the relative cost of manufacture for a carbon frame has dropped. One of the problems faced by every manufacturer is the cost of everything, raw material even cheap labour has increased. So to maintain a price point the component selection is being driven down - upto a certain price the first time buyer is probably just looking at a few highlights when buying .. is it carbon, does it have Shimano components? they are not looking at oh it's not Dura Ace! Also you have to remember bicycles are subject to an import duty of 14 percent which, when compared to consumer electronics rates of near zero, is bonkers and doesn't help when trying to meet a market price point.

much like society itself over the last 100 yearsthe pound has lost value and there was some inflation in china.

Fixed and single speed off the peg bikes has been driven by consumer demand. Carbon road bikes, are probably more driven by clueless middle age cunts who latch onto marketing spiel and brand image.

Really?
I've only ever ridden on a couple of carbon bikes (Madone, and TCR) and both of them felt laterally stiff yet vertically compliant.
In all seriousness though they both smash it for ride quality and stiffness compared to my Condor in Deda SAT 14.5 - ie a modern steal,
Surely if anything fixeh's suffer far more from clueless cunts. How many creates do you see on the road compared to carbon from the main brands?
Both are driven by consumer demand and tbc anything that gets more bikes on the road, in shops and in secondhand classifieds is good in my book.
Who would've thought a carbon fibre bike will come with Sora?
