  • I had Been spending my days after work perving over 90's steel and alu on ebay for the last month, it was decided that it would be how i built my first road bike...

Today I'm told my dads mate has an old bike laying in his garage, "yeah so what everyone has an old bike in their garage."
he said I could have it, used to be his dads who was a pro back in the day...hmmm this could get interesting...
Picked it up 10 minutes ago

Any info on what I have here would be appreciated, I'm shaking with excitement after seeing a few big names on it :)
    anyway heres the pics

cant wait to get it all cleaned up and put back together

  • And I thought my brother in law was lucky for being given a shiny but old trek road bike.

  • That's what they call a "find". Mismatch groupset but all high quality kit. Bit of a clean up and that will be lovely. Lucky devil

  • Beautiful!

  • Cant believe my luck! It needs wheels, only came with a front and its a tub.
how do I know how many gears/which cassette will be compatible ?

hopefully ill be able to swap out the D-A parts at a later date and return it all to Campagnolo

  • Very nice! Reminds of when my girlfriend's cousin said 'Do you want my old film camera? Didnt really use it'... Almost unused Olympus OM4Ti...

  • Oh and the icing on the cake, its my size! So good a fit in fact the seat post doesn't need moved at all!

  • Wow, dream find.
Pretty sure that is an Alan frame: slightly puzzled why it's got Vitus logos; maybe someone else can explain?
If it is an Alan you can email the guy that runs the company: Alberto Falconi will give you the details if you give him frame number. Google has details.

  • 8spd
    Campag record ergos, 92ish
    record rear mech to match
    earlier gran sport hub (tipo)
frame may be earlier and has been updated around 92
    check the rear spacing
    130 is 7-8 spd
    126 is 6 spd

  • Its a Vitus. They just look a bit like Alans.
    More on that here.

  • Those 600AX brake callipers are hens teeth and would go for 50 or 60 boys on ebay.

$161 Dollars for a NOS pair here

  • That's very nice, Some people have all the luck!

  • Its an alan, says so under the bottom bracket. strange :s

  • Hi mk1..i just posted that I was looking for some AX bits and got directed here. If youre thinking of changing the brakes I'm interested. http://www.lfgss.com/thread89337.html

  • Beautiful bike btw

  • Ill take cranks and brakes if you sell them

  • the frame WILL unbond itself at some point or another so watch out for that, buy a decent frame and put all the bits on it

  • the frame WILL unbond itself at some point or another so watch out for that, buy a decent frame and put all the bits on it

Nikishi Alien (here on the forum) had his one unbonding as he was riding in London only a couple of days after he completed the Dunwich Dynamo with it! Luckely no injuries!

    Stevo_com is correct, watch out!

    L

  • very nice

  • hopefully ill be able to swap out the D-A parts at a later date and return it all to Campagnolo

Why "return"? It's not like it's ben vandalised with Shimano parts is it?

  • Those are Dura Ace AX parts, not 600AX parts, DA ax is even more expensive these days..

  • Its a Vitus. They just look a bit like Alans.
    More on that here.

Thanks for the link gaz, but now OP says it says Alan on the BB.

Either way, I'm sure it'll build up to a lovely bike.

  • Nice! I have a matching rear hub if you plan on using the front one built up into different rims.

  • Does anyone know what the story is with regard to the brake pads on this, it just doesn't stop! theres plenty left but I think they are just too old.
