I have a dura ace one with narrow ratios and a Regina oro one with wider ratios, both used but the Regina is almost as new.
Let me know if interested and I'll check the ratios tomorrow. -

I have a SRAM/Sachs model which is basically unused, but I haven't decided if I can part with it yet. 12-21, 8-speed.

Good luck with your axle.

Think the one Mike posted is a cassette? But this one is a freewheel (or so it claims)

Sorry, you are quite right Qubit. Must stop posting in the middle of the night!!

Good luck with your axle.
Ive heard about this issue but how common is it?

Very.
That is one of the main reasons the industry switched to cassette. There is much less axle overhang, so less strain and likelyhood of breaking.
Ive worked in bike shops dealing mainly with cheap bikes which still use freewheels. They break all the time! I have done it twice myself and that was just on 7 speed.

Sorry, found 2 DA screw one, but both are 7 speed.

I had several 7 speed freewheels back in the day and never had a problem. However, i never subjected them to any real abuse, certainly wouldn't have one on an MTB and our roads are definitely worse than 20 years ago, so might be more likely to fail now.

I have an 8 speed freewheel, but it's a Regina America and worth about 80 quid, so it get's brought out very occasionally on my tt bike. So I can't really vouch for axle-breakageness..
I know these are hard to find or at least good quality ones and not ones with ratios suited to MTB's, but a good quality shimano compatible 8 speed screw on block would be appreciated.
