Straight into porn!
The rims are definitely the way to go, has to be. I'll look out for suitable hubs, but none immediately to mind from my meager knowledge. I like the idea of sticking euro with components, but know what you mean about the Sugino Grand Mightys! They would look good. But for me, I think the elegant looks of the Super Record crankset, or maybe Mavic has to be! ;P
I still cannot believe the condition of that frame, stunning. Glad its gone to a good home.

THanks dude.
Campag record track hubs are the obvious choice, although not easy to source the mixed hole count. I have some record track hubs in 28h laced to mavic cxp30 rims.... but dont really want to unbuld an split.. in fact i will prob be selling them to raise some funds for this..
sheriff stars? do i push the boat? again hard to source in diff hole count! check these modified matte 28h!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Campagnolo-C-Record-track-hubs-Star-Sheriff-32H-Pista-Fixed-New-Matt-/110913099154?pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d2ef9592these hubs are calling me but again would need a rim re-think on the rear: http://www.lfgss.com/thread87950.html
I already have a 28/32 wheelset mix with disco Suzue pro max hubs which could be unbuilt but again dont really wan to unbuild other shit i have... plus they wouldnt do the frame anygood.
also looking at cinelli La84 pursuit bars but i think i prefer the mavic bar idea.

Of course, another option is to go bonkers, stay British, and get some Royce hubs...
-
• #9
^ hadnt thought of that! oh shiz.
Also been looking at the Mavic SSC stuff. real nice. real pricey.
there are too many choices.... i say choices like i can make which ever one i want. thats not the case. must remember i'm trying to do this on a budget. mind you if i really want something i'll make it work!

I have a pair of NOS Fir ST401 Aero Rims (like Shamals) that would look brilliant on this. In fact, they would be so perfect I'd let you have them for next to fuck all.
PM if interested.

For a frame like that, it's worth it to take your time and do it right.
But until you get all the high end stuff to do it right, find some stuff to make it ridable and have fun!
Too good a frame not to ride it.

^thats a dangerous way too make it HHSB or anti!! but i here you. i want to be on it tomorrow however it aint going anywhere without any wheels..
will pester the fella who looks after the warehouse at the velodrome here in Palma and see if he has anything that'll work and he will part with to get it up n running so to speak a little quicker.

^^^ Thanks Jingle Jangle. will keep it in mind. are they 650/700? preferably going box rim on this but you knwo we all get bored and fancy another look sometimes so could be a good 2nd option!

mark lovely frame youve got there..
just one thing springs to mind, mavic may offer drop a tad too deep for this low front end!(I see that in campagnolo guise)
-
• #17
^had thought about that..... in my head, i fear it could become a bit of a back breaker with the mavic. like this:

• #18
seller says he had drops on it in original set up.....
-
• #19
thats why i started thinking about the Cinelli La84 bars... with Grammo stem? $$

Any Challenge-logo gumwalls would match nicely with the blue frame/red badge, plus Criterium are going for a reasonable price from PX at the moment:

THats a given TM!
Picked this up off the bay a couple of weeks ago:
Sold as Raleigh 753 1986 Commonwealth games team track frame. Ilkeston factory build in Ti 753 reynolds tubing.
According to the seller the original build was something like this:
Seatpost/Saddle- 1985 Campagnolo super record fluted 27.2 & Cinelli Unicantor
Bars/Stem- Cinelli 65/40 & Cinelli stem (didnt specify model)
BB/Cranks- Campagnolo super record titanium & Campagnolo pista cranks
Pedals- Campagnolo super record
Wheelset- originally thought 650front, ACTUALLY 24inch front/700rear Campagnolo hubs to Mavic CX18 28h rims
Oh I haz the original headset also: Edco competition.
Thats quite a shopping list!
This is going to be a bit of a slow burner as I cant be spanking loads of money on the first things available and will want to be waiting for the deals to come around if i am to build it back to its former glory or as close to it as possible.
AND i also have soem other ideas of an alternate build..
I have some nice Mavic pursuit bars (think the model is 355) in the dark anodised grey but need a stem. Silver mavic 365 or similar maybe?
Thinking the frame would look nice with silver hubs/spokes to black or dark grey rims... I have some 28h 650c Campagnolo Omega 19's for the front and a 32h 700c Omega strada for the rear available to use.
hub choice? I can't work this out yet. It is slightly frustrating having diff spoke count front n rear, but dont want to buy a completely new 650/700set of something else!
I think the post can only be Campagnolo and probably cranks too but this is still not 100%. My question is if I go 80's period or get slghlty more modern crankset on there?
ON the other hand... I love the Japanese bits and have had an aching for some suntour superbe stuff for a while... I have some Sugino grand mighty's in the champage which would look lovely against the blue.. I realise Japanese components probably aren't fitting to the frame but it does have Shimano rear dropouts!! (trying to convince myself and you lot that its ok!)
I really like the idea of the dark grey/black & silver combination and the small splashes of yellow on the omega rims and mavic bars have almost got me convinced that is the way to go.
PLease put your thoughts down to try and help me along!
