Slightly better pic as it stands currently.
Definitely thinking I'll build her up with NJS parts. I'd love a track-styke bike that I can also ride long distances on, so that means slightly beefier wheels (maybe get a matching Gran Compe front), front brake, clipless pedals, a non-NJS saddle (happy with the Concor Light) and probably keep the bottle cage too.
Not sure about track drops - I've never tried them. Only one way to find out I guess!

You do.
Nice frame that Jadias, can get NJS aerospoke?
-
• #7
Haha, not likely. I may sell the Spok (a shame) to fund other parts. Today I switched out the bar tape to Fizik Microtex Dual and fitted an NJS chain.
My to-buy list is probably:
- silver Sugino 75 cranks & ring (I have the old Shimano NJS BB)
- EAI cog
- matching Gran Compe track front wheel
- NJS seatpost (maybe the classic Nitto Pearl)
- Nitto B123 track drops with black keirin grips
I figure those parts along with compromises on tyres (Aksion and Gatorskin), saddle, pedals, bottle cage and saddle will give me a nice middle ground between full NJS track beast and serviceable everyday bike.

b123 bars look great but ain't too comfy... I'd definitely go for B125AA if you're planning to ride any distance... or even go for a road bar / brake lever setup...
-

The 125s look nice - good call. Not keen on the style of road drops with levers and I don't think it'd mesh with an otherwise track-y bike, unfortunately.

Yeah, I suggested the Aluminium versions because the steel ones are super stiff, greaat for track but not so comfortable on the road.

Great thread title, nice frame

I had a little crash. This bike is cursed.
The frame is unscathed. My face not so much.

OOF! Shit dude, that looks bad. Hope you're ok...
-
• #14
oohhh fuckk mate!
what the hell happened?!
feeling bad now :( -
• #15
Heal up well fella, hope the bike is ok. Not catastrophic spontaneous aerospoke combustion was it?
-
• #16
Genuinely have no idea what happened. One minute I'm riding, the next thing I remember is marvelling at how much blood I'd deposited on the road and then getting into an ambulance with my bike. The guy in the ambulance said my bike was nice and cleaned the blood off the stem with some surgical wipes. I suspect maybe I hit the stem with my face.
Bizarre thing is, my face is busted to bits (fucked nose, split lip, broken tooth, some cuts and scrapes) but I almost don't have a mark on me otherwise. A little very mild road rash on my forearms and the backs of my hands and a grazed knee.
Likewise the bike - rear wheel is a little wonky but not much, brake was off-centre, very slightly ripped bar tape and stem was knocked off to one side. Not a mark on it otherwise, unless you count my precious bodily fluids.

ooof looks painful. careful out there mate.
-

Clearly it's because you rode without a rear brake - the law is there to keep you safe. And there is literally no other possible way to explain it.
Heal up! And glad the bike's ok.

Holy shit Jadias heal up dude.

on a more optimistic note, i see you chose the best bullhorns ever.. rb-001?

Ouch! Bad luck dude. Those blood splatters on your rim look wicked though! Gonna get me some of dem..

Good that you're ok. Rest up and get back on the road soon.

Maybe your trouser leg got caught in the chain?
Get well soon
-
• #24
Jesus man, hope you're okay! Got a bit of a shock I can imagine no?
-

Get better soon, jadias. Hope it's not the curse of the 'Dr.' reference in the thread title.
Today I popped in here to have a look on behalf of another forum member:
Well hey there Rene, whatcha working' on?
And I accidentally made a small impulse buy...
What's this?
Congratulations - it's a slave!
My first keirin frame!
Built it up as soon as I got home. Now 3am and I'm finally getting round to dinner!
Parts are more or less taken off my Leader for now (new rear wheel though). New bar tape will come tomorrow (had to scrap my Fizik - damn you, quill stems!). I'd like to get some more fitting silver cranks/ring at some point. Stem needs cleaning up a bit.
I like salve bikes (guilty pleasure!) but I might swap out the Spok for something like the rear and go more for the full-NJS look (but fuck paying the money for the stamp).
Tell you what though... it's so smooth! Rides like a dream. Almost silent drivetrain (not sure why but my Leader was always a little noisy).
Better pics tomorrow if the weather is good!
