2012-06-22 - Rider Down, Clapham Road (A3)

Cycling home from college the roads started getting pretty congested from Vauxhall southwards.

Arrived at the Stockwell roundabout to find traffic being directed towards Brixton as the A3 / Clapham Road was closed from Stockwell Station down to the traffic lights at Union Road / what used to be Circle Bar.

I was told by a police officer that there had been an accident involving a cyclist and a car.

The bike was still on the side of the road.

Rider, I hope you're doing OK. Mend up soon.

Twitter seems to be suggesting the cyclist was taken away in an air ambulance.

I saw the mangled bike and pile of clothes in the cordoned off junction, and feared the worst.

Fingers crossed for you, rider.

Yeah, I went past just as the air ambulance was taking off. No other information as the police all looked pretty busy. Looked like a dark coloured hybrid, all clothes apparently cut off at the scene. Doesn't look good but hopefully it looks worse than it was.

Went past at 19.10 spoke to female police officer, she said rider was being treated in hospital but condition unknown. Like people said clothes left at the scene, the whole scene cordoned, two cars and bike (missing the rear wheel) inside the cordon. Hopes and thoughts for the rider.
