'How To Drive A Car'

Posted on
  • Just stumbled upon this little book I inherited from my father/grandfather. It's called "HOW TO DRIVE A CAR", by the editor of "The Motor" - but it doesn't give a name or indeed a date. I reckon it's from shortly after the war. The strapline is "An authoratative treatise dealing with the safe handling of a motor car under all conditions of road travel"

Anyway, thought you might find the following passages interesting/funny. I particularly like bit on Taxi Drivers.

  • Nice one Ian, love the bit about carrier bikes on the third scan. "one can only... marvel at their survival" sounds like the early forties from the tone.

  • Thats amazing ian. Would love to borrow the book

  • ^ i could bring it along on the Bletchley ride - it doesn't weigh much

  • Cheers ian.

  • "On occasions one can only gasp at their crass stupidity and marvel at their survival."
