  • Hi all

Does anyone have a spare tub for sellz?

I'm fairly new to this tubular game but after something with some decent puncture protection and ideally all black, including sidewalls. Purely for vanity's sake!

If not can you recommend me one? Been looking at the conti gatorskins but it pains me to drop £40 on tyre for an occasional wheel!

    Cheers

  • Decathlon sell a vittoria pretty cheap. Not all black mind.

  • hmmm £15...they any good?

  • er they work very well until punctured............

  • Hang on, you don't want to spend on good tubs cos they're expensive.

I've no idea if they're good, you won't get me pissing around with tubs. But some other Vittorias I have are ace tyres for the money, about half the price of their nearest rival.

  • Not the best of reasons, but I bought a carbon front on the cheap so looking to get it rolling on the cheap too.. fashion over function.

Will give the Vittorias a look unless anyone has a spare to sell and the same sort of price?

  • Steer clear of Vittoria Rally, roll like shite they do, Sprinters are worth it, I have a brand new one you can have for £25 posted, but it's the tan version..

  • Gah...I'll keep that in mind Dandy but I'll see if anyone else has something all black.

    Cheers

  • have all black (incl. sidewalls) Conti. Sprinter for £25.00?

  • Is it used? Inc. postage?

  • brand new in box and will include an unused tube of Conti. tub glue....postage would be £3.00 extra

  • Thanks but after having a look at the continental website I think the Gatorskins are my best bet...with no experience of tubulars before I don't fancy the hassle of punctures!

  • The Rev - What width is that mate?

  • Stodd, sprinters are great quality. If I didn't have a million other things to buy I would have that off him..

  • Rancid....its 700/22 and Stodd tubs are so much quicker to change than inner tubes if you puncture the golden rule is to carry a spare!

  • Does anyone have experience in running sealant in tubs as a prophylactic measure against punctures?

This needs qualifying- it took me a good half an hour to get a tub off a rim last time I had to do so, it was stuck down extremely well.

  • I find tape sticks plenty, without the massive adhesion of glue.....does that sound a bit scobled?
What I mean is, tape holds the tub on, but you can get it off ok if needed

  • Depends on the tape, I bought some wheels that had tufo extreme and it was a nightmare getting them off. Generally I think if you take 30 mins to get a glued tub off a rim then you have probably used too much glue.

Do you do the 3 layers one?

I have heard of people sticking the tyre on dry, start at the valve and just lift the tyre up and stick the glue in there. Haven't tried that myself..

Hiya.....Which tape would you recommend?.....Do Tufo still do their other tape.....the less extreme version?

  • I wouldn't use tape, but then my tubs are for racing on. Gluing is easier anyway.

  • If you must tape, just get Velox.

  • Quick bump to see if anyone's got a gatorskin tubular they're willing to part with.

Turns out Wiggle have them on special and with the father's day offer they're £33 so will be getting one off there if not.

    Thanks for the advice

  • and another as a spare too.............

It was done by a mechanic friend of mine- and yes it was the three on the rim and one on the tyre technique.

Having just come back from a sportive where I got two pinch flats I'm very receptive to the idea of tubs, but I have "the fear" when it comes to getting them on and off.
