Where to ride?

  • Ask BMMF.

  • 20 mins east on the train from Stratford (towards Colchester/Chelmsford) will get you into some quiet, rural, and very flat lanes replete with countryside pubs and horse cack everywhere. Perhaps too far for the evenings, but great for weekend rides.

  • There's something about West London that pulls me in when I'm just drifting around on my bike. I'd say pootle West through Fitzrovia and Marlebone and then cut through the backstreets between Hyde Park and the Westway - Queensway, Notting Hill, Holland Park - these are great places to quietly pedal through. Make sure to enjoy the smells of shisha on Edgeware Road. You can follow Portobello Road up through Ladbroke Grove and eventually Kensal Rise you'll see a great mix of people and vacillations in wealth- I suppose what Notting Hill was like 15-20 years ago. If you're feeling fancy you can loop down through Shepherds Bush and go over Hammersmith Bridge (beautiful, small, weak) and take the Thames Path or Lonsdale Road/the Terrace to Kew or Richmond Park.

That's all flat and if you're willing to get lost you'll see great backstreet and you can completely link each area and miss out big roads. Enjoy.

  • ^ Thanks both, I'll be sure to have a wander.
