  • Thought I'd start a thread now some of the parts have arrived!

    Its here!

I've got most of the bits on there way to me now, but I've neglected the seatpost clamp so thats now on order

Apologise for phone photo, no longer have a camera...

Hopefully stuff starts arriving ASAP, need to get the wheelset ordered,

    Thanks

    rogan

  • Lovely frameset. Deserves gears haha, but will be very nice as a conversion too.

  • Little update,

Cranks and pedals arrived, looking lovely! (they're actually pretty much the same colour.. the chainring looks white in the pic for some reason..)

Bottom bracket arrived however I have a small problem,

As you can see the left plastic cup sticks out about 15mm, the crank arms still go on and spin fine and it doesnt get in the way but obviously this isn't right i don't think

After googling around i think its because the plastic cup i've been supplied with (bought 2nd hand) is actually for a 73mm shimano cartridge BB not a 68 like mine... does this sound right?

  • How far did it thread in?

Is that grease on the threads?

  • Figured out the problem in any question answered,

the plastic cup was split and glued back together and won't screw in any further than that,
the plastic side isn't supposed to be greased is it? theres no grease on the plastic side

  • There wouldn't be much benefit gained from greasing it. It might even cause the threads to slip, so I'd avoid it

  • grease everything that has threads!

  • and get yourself a decent dual pivot front caliper

  • I use a blob of medium threadlock on my BB just as a safety precaution. Some new Campag models come with a blob of soft threadlock already on the threads.

  • God I love that Bobby J.
Half ass bidded for it myself, to build for my girl. She didn't need a bike, I just wanted that frame... ;p. Well done. Can't wait to see it done up!

    Cheers!

    Its almost there...

Need the wheelset to arrive, then need to get some brake cable and rim tape tomorrow

Also don't like the tyres, don't look how i imagined and they were cheap so i'll be replacing those fairly early on, and new bars for sure

  • tyres are cool man!

  • We'll see how they look on!

  • On hold now as wheelset got delivered to my parents house <.< hopefully should get hold of them soon...

  • what a bike that will be.my dream one.

  • What wheels have you gone for?

Loving the colour by the way

  • Those wheels might not stand up to much wear...

  • ^ You mean the tyres? Yeah they were cheap, just wanted to decide on what style i wanted before splashing out on good ones!

Wheels from varno, all silver, will be removing decals etc.

  • So its all done! Had a 15 minute ride in the terrential rain last night at my parents house, was too heavy/i was too wet to get a picture before leaving it at my parents

We will be reunited in 2 weeks when it comes to meet me in London!

First things, got dam stopping is hard aha, front brake helps a lot though, got thrown off the front trying to emergency stop without the front brake. Typical. Foot retention is what i'll be buying ASAP. First 5 minutes my chain was skipping, but after oiling the chain it did it once more and hasn't done it in the rest of the 20 minutes, so hopefully thats solved that...

All in all Its so nice! will need to change the ratio at some point 48x16 = goodbye cheap tyres even faster than they would do anyway

  • Foot retention wise, would people recommend thick straps? or clips and thin straps?

  • if your using clips then double straps (also make sure you have large or xlarge clips), or you could use holdfast type straps with flat pedals, which ever you prefer. Also trying to skid without foot re-tension is pretty much impossible. :)

i have these pedals, will i be able to put clips and double straps on them?

  • Rogan you need to post an image of the finished build

Yep, those two holes at the front are made for it....double straps are sometimes a pain to get through some pedals but you can always trim them a little to fit....
