Here's an amazing mix that Mick Boogie did recently to commemorate the Beastie Boys induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It took on a different kind of significance a week later when MCA died. Not sure if this is up your street but it is probably the best Beastie Boys 'album' you will ever hear made by a long time friend and collaborator. I would highly recommend it.
Back on the genre-bending tip, I have recently been digesting this mix by Ryan Hemsworth, a young hip-hop producer who works with Main Attrakionz and Green Ova. It splices up pop/rock/R&B until it sounds like smoked-out southern hip-hop.
Also, definitely worth a mention is another recent mix by Rustie. It's pretty amazing. It straddles the boundaries of hip-hop and bass music with a few surprises. The tracklist is incredible. If you like this kind of thing it's unmissable.

dj rupture did some mad mixes that took in things from noise through to Paul Simon
not really interested in a list of big house or techno mixes, more for things that are quite varied and yet skillfully put together, where the art of the mix and genre splice are done well (as opposed to the fucking awful mashup mixes that every cunt and his dog did after hearing optimo and toomanydjs)
generally commercial mix compilations fail to make the grade, as there are too many licensing issues, and they tend to just focus on one genre of music

Greg Wilson has some good mixes floating around the internet. I really liked the two compilations he did for fabric a few years back, not mixes as such but more his favourite tunes. You can get them both off Itunes as podcasts for free, last time I checked (can't recheck as on Linux atm). His Essential Mix is also awesome.

still there, plus the Jazzanova ones are great listening too.
There have been a few DJ mixes over the years that have really grabbed my attention as quirky/interesting/entertaining.
Melancholy Flowers by Bobby Corridor is immense, and beautiful. A mix all about love in its various guises, with diversity and so soulfully put together. Years after I first hear this it still brings a lump to my throat. Al Green, Depeche Mode, Carl Craig and Nirvana all mixed and edited perfectly in key with a wonderful sense of narrative and flow.

DJ Spinbad his Rock the Casbah mix (http://spinbad.com/files/SPINBAD80SMEGAMIXVOL1.zip) was a reminder of how not all hip hop DJ's take themselves too seriously, proper skills and shout outs from all manner of hip hop heroes as he cut and scratched the shit out of a ton of 80's pop classics.
Others that are worth looking out for
Jeff Mills as the Wizard - before he was known in Europe for his frenetic 3 decks and 909 techno workouts he had a radio show in Detroit where he had a limited time so would try to splice and dice as many tracks as possible into his slot.
The Latin Rascals - mad micro edits of 80's dance and latin freestyle, doing things with a reel to reel and a razor that others can only emulate 30 years later with computers.
Are there any things that you would suggest, the kinds of compilations that make you listen to music in a different manner?
