Not quite what you're asking, but have a read of David Harvey's stuff on spatiality if you haven't already. You'd probably find his work useful.
I'm interested in what you're getting at actually - what's your findings/research so far?

I'm looking mostly at the relationship between rider / driver and their environment: how we culturally construct the space we travel in / through. This is for an anthropology masters module, so it's not yet dissertation level, but I'm going into John Urry / Mimi Sheller's work on Automobility, some work by Michael Bull on the use of music in cars. The project is also primarily autoethnography- there will be material from interviews with my fellow bike commuters and drivers, and some video / photo / maps involved.

Found this on Google scholar: http://doc.utwente.nl/42815/1/fire12.pdf it even brings in Bruno Latour.... but I have to keep quite focussed. Good call on the Harvey material, I'm gonna have a scoot through some of his papers.

I'd recommend posting on the JISC CYCLING-AND-SOCIETY Research Group Discussion List or trawl through their archive as they might have some pointers (if you've not already done so):

Sounds like an interesting project.

I assume you checked in on the CTC forum, lots of beards & wise owls there to fill in gaps and a huge font of knowledge

Many thanks for those two links- one missing paper I will be able to get from JISC CYCLING-AND-SOCIETY Research Group Discussion List- I've also come across Rachel Aldred from UEL and her excellent work, she's active on that site.

Excuse my rudeness- life has been crazy (work / study balance madness!)- I'm working on my paper now and I'll share the full reference list when I'm done. In the meantime- does anyone have any of the papers by Justin Spinney from Cycling & Society? I can't access any of them....
Hey there....
I'm writing a paper on an ethnographic study of cultural space produced when commuting by bike & by car (the differences etc.)- no sniggering please, it's not as up-my-own-arse as it sounds...
I'm looking for any recommendations for papers on related themes (primarily anthropological / sociological)- I've done a very thorough literature search, but I'd like to call on a group of subject matter experts on practical bike use; that's you guys.
Anyone with any suggestions for good reading on ride-along qualitative study methods or examples of visual ethnography using helmet cams etc. please also chip in....
I'm happy to share the paper / project with anyone who has any leads- I might be around for the Nocturne next week- if I'm there I'll be the guy on a black Kalavinka with black & white checkerboard rear wheel... come & say hi
Cheers,
Matt
