Doesn't spagettihoops work for someone who does higher end resprays?
There's also some guy on here who does / did a serious fluro fade paint job with car paint?

I would like to know how to achieve a brushed finish on frame tubes, using commonly available household materials.

If it's steel you would have to clear coat it surely or it would just rust would it not.

I once saw a car that was hairy!
It was long, shag-pile-esque (about an inch) and a shade of green similar to grass so that it looked like someone had laid turf over each of the body panels. Apparently the technique involves static electricity and a paint with some kind of ferrous content so that during the spraying the paint clings on in strands. It looked epic on this car, but might be a bit of a fail on a bike frame because of the dirt factor, but if you went for black and the bike was a bit ratty anyway it might look good.
Or just shampoo it!
I had a good look round the internnodle but could find any photos. Maybe someone knows what it's called?

This is more like it. Although in black instead of green it just reminds me of one of these fat local guys you see on the beach on the Costa del Sol

DJ Hell used to be involved in a nightclub called the Ultraschall in Munich. One room was ceiling to floor covered in green fur. It stank of fags, rancid booze and body odour, one time I had to DJ for 6 hours in there.

There's a guy call Matt Bown who works under the name of 'Spray shack' or something.
He's located London fields near to where Tour deville used to be and does some very nice work, some of which for TFG and some poncy Ti bespoke thing last time I saw him.
PM me and I'll get you his details next week. -

I love what Armourtex do and how they do it, but what if I want something more complicated than a single, thickly-applied colour? What about rainbow sparkles??? What about flip-flop paint and chrome that becomes fluorescent pink when you look at it sideways? Where does Vaz feature in all this? Do we need a list of the standard places but also some of the more specialised outfits?
Forgive me if there's already a decent thread on this, but I'm interested to know what the options are in London for paint, powdercoating and chrome-plating etc. Let's say, places that you could deliver your frame to rather than having to package it up and send by Parcelfarce. But then we should also have another category for Argos and Mercian and whoever else.
My Merckx was done by Mario. He did a great job.
I just went for a one colour job with decals and lug lining — it was very good value for money. He can do more complex jobs too - just ask for a quoteThe only caveat to getting a more flash paint job is that modern enamels are a bit more prone to chipping - apparently you're supposed to leave the frame for a month after the respray before building it up so the paint hardens. I didn't know and so chipped it a bit during the build process.

If I had something really complex in mind and had the cash I'd probably go to Rourke or Mercian. The paint jobs Rourke have been doing recently are just awesome
-
• #22
I specifically wouldn't go to Mercian. I specified one of their stock colours and what I got was really quite different to what I was expecting. The quality of the work is epic but the way they go about mixing colours "by eye" leaves a large margin for error. But then it depends how fussy you are (I'm really fussy).

Speak to Colour-tech in Dartford
http://www.yell.com/b/Colour_Tech-Enamellers+_+Stove-Dartford-DA14LX-2017432/index.htmlI believe they spray all Sigma, Geoffrey Butler, Chas Roberts, Shorters frames and also do specialist in airbrush work.
I was going to get my frame sprayed with them last year but never went through with it so cant personally recommend, but i have heard good things about them.
I think the quote they gave me was around the £100 mark for enamel and cc.. this may have changed. This is by them...
