  • Long story short, my little brother Scoot and my mate Jack both need to do more cycling, only problem is that Scoot is a tad unfit and has a terrible bike to cycle on, putting him off somewhat (My crappy old full sus) and Jack is also riding a mountain bike and maintains the argument that he would ride more if he had a more road oriented bike.

The solution on a budget? Build two bikes, one fixie for my Jack's birthday and a SS for Scoot to ride to school and to band practice on.

I was given some old frames through work and decided they'd do, so down to the the powder coaters with the instructions of 'make mine blue' from Scoot and 'British racing green' from Jack, and here they are, wonderful job for £20 I reckon, including the head badge for Jack's green bike.

I'll me mostly using parts from the second hand corner of work, but I'm aiming it get some decent riding and looking bikes, so probably sticking to silver as a colour for all the parts if I can, Scoot's bike is having both brakes, Jack's is having a front and fixed as he's been practicing on mine already and got a fair hang of it.

    Next job, build some wheels!

  • Lovely looking frames, where did you go to get powder coating for £20?

  • Those colours are exactly the ones I'd want...

Cheers man! Went to Chicago powder coaters in Mossley, £20 per frame+forks for sand blast and powder coat, they even taped off the threads which is more than I can say for some powder coaters. They also blasted my fixie for £10 to bare metal, and their quality has been nothing but grand from my experience.

Tah, the colours came out pretty nice in the end eh? I've got some blue cloth tape to match the frame on my bro's bike too, picked it up in Bruge but I think the green frame is going to have to be black tape.

Is this the wrong time to mention they finished my frames in about 3-4 days? They only took one day to blast my other frame too.

  • Well, apologies for lack of updates, the work happened very fast on my brother's bike, so there was little room to take pics, and my mate's bike was promptly whisked away so I just nabbed some photos when it was finished, anyway, here are the finished articles.

I also had to find a new frame for my brother as the steel one just wasn't working, a new frame was needed.

    Scoot's-

    Jack's-

It wasn't a day after I'd given him the bike that the daft bugger decided to tape a horn to the handlebars. He's having a grand time 'parping' at cars!
