Trade: My Shimano 105 8 Speed shifters for your 7 speed shifters

Afternoon folks,

I have a set of second hand 105 8 speed STI shifters. Unfortunately, they don't match up with my wheelset I have for my current build (7 speed), so looking to switch them with someone on here....

They're second hand so have sign of the usual wear. Unfortunately I don't have any cables for them, but these can be easily picked up online.

Preferably switch with a pair of 105's, but if someone has a pair of 600/Ultegra, or even Dura Ace, i'm sure i could add some cash to the equation.

as far as I know 7 speed sti's only came in RSX, RX100 and Sora

you know these work fine with 7 speed?

....but isn't there an issue with a potential shift off the cassette? or have i got my facts wrong?

It's not so much that because you just adjust the limit screws but as far as I know the spacing of 7 and 8 speed are different so it won't sit in gear properly. I could be wrong of course as adroit says it works...

Tel, i think you're right. it's difficult with a lack of experience, and all opinions are greatly appreciated in order to make an informed decision. i think it's best that i swap them out....

8 speed cassettes (and therefore the shifters that match) are spaced at 4.8 mm and 7 speed are 5 mm. So in practice this is too small an amount to make any noticeable difference over the range of the cassette, as it is within the range of movement taken up by the floating jockey wheel on the rear mech. Shifting will be perfect You might just notice a tiny amount of noise on the big cog, but you will have to listen pretty hard to notice. There are no 7 speed STI's anything like as nice as the ones you have.

Incidentally I do have some 7 speed Sora shifters but they're not for swaps. £60 posted.

I got some last year from roseversand.de. Only place i could find that could get them. They called them griff gummis, i think it was part no *85Z 9805. *

I had to call them from memory (or i emailed them and then they called me i cant remember), they may even have had to order them from Shimano. They were very helpful and efficient and they came quickly too. The part number is 85Z 9805. Google it - few places appear to sell them but upon contact never have any in stock. Like Bonthrone
