Bike theft in dulwich/forest hill

Posted on
  • Hi, just a quick note to warm people that two guys have been seen in the Dulwich/Forest Hill area stealing bikes with angle-grinders.

Obviously there's not much that can be done since these bastards are well equipped and evidently very efficient, but keep an eye out.

    Jack

  • Cutting off locks at Sheffield stands?

  • I presume so, why have you had a bike nicked?

  • Thanks for the heads up I work at the national sports centre and lock my bike outside, I thinks it's time to start bringing inside.

  • That blows. There are quite a few good places to lock bikes 'securely' in Forest Hill though. There are some stands outside Wetherspoons next to the bus stop and in full view of the 'Spoons CCTV.
Same applies to the station, there's a coffee stand that overlooks all the bike stands and the woman who works there is very friendly.

Can't speak for East Dulwich but Lordship Lane seems quite sound, there are plenty of people on the street all the time.

SE23 is safe in my experience, I've left my keys in my front door fuck knows how many times.

    Dammit? Thoughts?

  • Yeah I agree Forest Hill is not as crime ridden as people think, it's cosy old Dulwich that seems to be targeted most. Mind you, with the bikes I see cruising around there I'm not suprised this is happening

  • We get kids climbing over the fence, then trying all the garages- apparently they'll steal bikes and things if the garage is not locked.

Some of the flats have had some opportunistic theft- but that's all (so far) been where windows or balcony doors have been left unlocked/open.

It's fairly sleepy, really- if you make sure to lock everything then you'll be ok.

Lordship Lane is a victim of its own success- pickpockets and bag thieves target the pubs and bars there, but again if you are careful that's not a big problem.

They're not going to fight you for your bag, they'll just put their newspaper over it and try to take it when you're not looking.

  • what a grind

  • Angled grind, the worst kind.

Given that vans and angle grinders are known to be used in organised bike theft, it's not a shock to hear that Dulwich is on their sat-nav.

  • Wise move, National Sports center in Crystal Palace?

  • Wise move, National Sports center in Crystal Palace?

Yes crystal palace National sports centre, there's always little scrotes knocking around the park anyway, to be honest I can't believe none of the bikes that get locked up outside don't get butchered/stolen
