Im sure the 1st gen chorus levers didnt have those funny circle things next to the q/r?
Also the brakes were slightly less sleek, with a more defined tear-drop shape where the pads clamped on, and they had black o-rings on the cable tensioners and black jockey wheels on the derailleur? I'm certainly no expert mind, so im probably totally wrong... -

I'm no expert either but quite sure that:
1st gen levers had the circle bits you mention and they also had those fiddly little inserts for the cables which are a pain to set up and easily lost. 2nd gen didn't have inserts and had a hole in the lever (front centre top)
All monoplanars had group name laser etched on them apart from Chorus afaik. Also square edged blocks indicate they are early models. Very nice condition these ones as they are prone to rust.
Friction levers points to an early group I'm quite sure 2nd gen was indexed.
Biggest give away is the the very distinctive rear mech which is very clearly 1st gen Chorus.
Very honorable of you to keep the price so low, this groupset is a superb deal!

Prov dibs, can I let you know tomorrow? Are you in SE London or just South East generally?
With regards to the monoplanars, I've just sold a set without the group name on the advice that they were Athena.I thought they were chorus but was shot down by some guys at retrobike who told me otherwise. -

Afaik the block mount is more square on the Athena than the chorus, so I agree with you Tell but not sure about the lack of etching being unique to Chorus. Obviously I realise that you're far more likely to know than me.

I had to look into it so consulted the encyclopedia. These are Athena monoplanars. Very different...well distinctly different anyway. And no I would not be so bold as to claim that I am right about the laser etching that I would have to add "to the best of my knowledge".
Couldn't find your link on Retrobike though to confirm what yours were.

Sold
So, I'm wrong, it's 1st gen Chorus, which I would've probably asked more for, but as I've already priced it that is how it will sell.
Whats included;
Chainset 42/52 172.5 teeth in good condition, arms great, naturally all threads/tapers fine. Includes dustcaps.
Friction downtube levers, slight damage to outside of lever as pictured.
Front mech, band on 28.5.
Rear mech, some scratching, one tooth is broken from a jockey wheel.
Brake levers, very small split in hood, light scratching on front of levers.
Brake calipers, amazing condition, some rust on inside of bolts but otherwise perfect. Brake blocks barely worn in.
Headset, english thread, bearings good
BB english thread, bearings good
Athena hubs laced to Mavic 4cd rims, with a 6 speed freewheel. (Photos to follow)
Group including wheelset £225 / 245 posted

Obviously I do have the bearings for hs and bb, but thought I'd leave them greasy rather than fiddle and risk one popping down a floorboard!
