Stronglight A9 or Campag Super Record 1" Threaded Headset?

I'm unsure on which headset to get.
Opinions?

I found the metal on my Stronglight a bit soft. Is it the roller-bearing model? Personally, I might go for Campag. The last model I used was a C-record which was lovely.

Neither. Campagnolo headsets aren't known for their unusual quality, never mind the campy tax you pay.

Roller bearing headsets suck, contrary to what everyone whole loves them keeps saying. They have free extra friction and they do 'brinel', I've seen plenty with lovely roller-shaped indentations on the bearing races that turned like shit.

If you're going for the classic look, get a Tange Seiki Levin, half the price of the campy headset (the CDS version being even cheaper) of which it is a copy, with double the quality.

Tange levin or falcon good, but they have a low stack height, plus available in both ISO and JIS, so you need to get the right one. Gipiemme aren't bad (campy without the cachet), neither are old ritchey

Installed properly, either headset can provide years of service.

What make is the rest of the group?

The new a9 has not got needle bearings, just standard sealed bearings.

I think I'll go with the Tange Levin Headset.

the tange levin has a stack height of approx 33mm, is this ok?

i ask, as the two headsets you initially proposed have a stack height of approx 38mm - 5mm difference from the tange.

have you measured the stack height of your forks against the head tube so you know which will fit?

I've had one of these in my bike for about 6months and it's been perfect. The new campy ones are just a bit shit tbh.

why?

Rode on it for about a month and the crown race had cracked. Not sure if the shop put it on wrong or it was faulty but yea.. Was gutted. No problems with the a9 though.
