  • I am thinking about converting my SE Draft from a FW to a FG and removing my breaks, godd idea, bad idea?

If i do it how difficult is it to do?

  • removing my breaks, godd idea, bad idea?

    the latter

  • or even the latter

  • Convert to fixed gear yes but leave the brakes where they are unless you like Hospital food, only place for no brakes is the Track :)

  • leave both breaks?

  • Freewheel are broken geared bike, go for it.

both brakes if you like, fixed wheel does not mean you need to ride with just the front despite what conventional wisdom said.

  • keep both brakes on, get used to, then take the back one off

  • Freewheel are broken geared bike, go for it.

    eh?

  • Forward planning here: it takes a few weeks to figure out if you like fixed or not. Keep them on but flip your wheel so if you change your mind you don't have to stick them both back on.

No matter what though keep your front brake on. Safety innit, even if you don't use it.

  • broken - stuck on one gear.

    All in one go?
Its not just a bad idea, but a fucking stupid one.

There's not really such a great deal of difference between fixed wheel and fixed gear.

  • Fixed with at least the front brake.

  • At least a front brake otherwise you'll be needing a lots of stimpaks.

And what do i need to do this? Is it easy to do?

  • couple of tools, flip the wheel round, job done.

Which has always puzzled me slightly.

Surely fixed wheel is the opposite of free wheel and fixed gear means fixed in one gear.

ie a fixed gear bike may have a freewheel but is still fixed in one gear if it has a single ratio.

But logically SS could also apply to both fixed wheel and free wheel bicycles and people seem to use it to imply a freewheel so meh.

  • ^ csb, tl;dr, yawn etc

Now now Ed, not eeeeeveryone thinks fallout is reality.

Yes, I know, it was just meant as a little joke. :)

  • It always stirs my inner pedant!
