nothing too serious!!Lol, you dont need 2.4" MTB tyres.
If you are using it as a commuter, some 1.5-1.75 slick, lightweight tyres will be perfect. Knobbles will slow you down, plus a deep cut tread will wear fast in the city so you may not have enough grip left by the time you do an occasional off road ride.
Continental do a range of 26" city tyres with fairly smooth knobbles.

DMR MOTOS have a small block tread that works on roads and trails, whilst still retaining that 'full' look (up to 2.4) maybe thats what youre looking for.

Kenda Small block 8.
Personally I'd get 2.35", cuz I like a soft fat tyre. But they come in all sorts of sizes.

I've got the DMR Motos on my jump bike
Great tyre never flatted in 1.5 years great wear rate i.e skidded the back wheel at almost every opportunity and still plenty of tread left
can take a decent psi

Try the Continental Race Kings. I use them for pretty much everything except downhilling and serious mud. Proper good and fast tyre.

Amerityre or Greentyre are the best tyres you can get because they are truly puncture proof. They are contrary to popular belief not solid tyres, they are made from long lasting hard wearing polyurethane foam. Over the years these tyres have become better and better coming very close to the performance of hollow peunmatic tyres. Many people dismiss them but if you think about it what is the worst thing that you hate about cycling? Punctures so the trade off in slightly less performance is well worth it in my opinion.

This is what you want. small lugs close enough together not to produce tyre buzz.
I stand by my Small block 8s though. They roll really well, and shed mud far better than the design suggests*.
(*I have the CX version though).

I use crossmarks if using road and canals.
Ribmo's for road.
Hi! I am in market for a pair of good MTB tyres 26". I have major clearance to my forks and can get up to 2.40" inch! I am looking for something that has great puncture protect and fast rolling tread?
Anyone got any advice for this question^?
