I looked at the Levi's site, this Commuter range thing is one pair of shit hipster trousers in 4 colours, two dull jackets and a plain grey shirt? Is that it? I thought there might be some nice breeches, or tops suitable for cycling, or something with more thought than a strip of reflective tape on some crappy turn-ups. Have they really got no designers who can design?

The jeans aren't shitty, the blue and black ones aren't that hipster, they have more than the strip of reflective tape, such as being water repellent, reinforced gusset and a D lock holder. What more do you want from a jeans company?
It's nice to have a pair of jeans for everyday wear that are a little more rugged. I like mine. -

anyone else here get on the rollers?

The old breeches/cycling top combo eh? You don't need Levi's if that's what you're looking for:

Do they do fat boy sizes?

swrve jeans are better.

So Levi's have noticed everyone is cycling? Sod them I say we did it without them before and we can continue to set our own style without them

If Levi's can make everyday styled clothing suitable and affordable for the everyday cyclist then this can only increase the appeal and accessibility of cycling to cyclists and non-cyclists alike. Surely anything pro-cycling is a positive thing?

I'm not sure about that, I think doping is a bit of a downside to pro cycling. :)
And cycling becoming mainstream enough for big companies to take an interest? Precedents being set for clothing to be tailored with a view to riding bikes more? Heaven forfend!

swrve jeans are better.
The swrve clothes look a lot more like what I was hoping for. Thanks for that.
Have you ever bought a pair of jeans before?
I get my Levis sent from a friend in America when Macy's have a sale. £85 here = $35 there. Huzzah!

http://www.thefootdown.co.uk/2012/03/12/levis-commuter-jeans/wow, it sounds like Levi has pissed on his chips. He strikes me as someone that would pay £150 for some raw denim from Japan too.
"These Levi’s Commuter jeans, have you been sucked in by their marketing? I hope not.
You do realise that these are just a pair of jeans with a bunch of pointless features, don’t you? Jeans have been doing a perfectly good job for a zillion years, the only essential feature for cycling is 2% stretch. All this crap is pointless…
Water resistant and dirt repellent NanoSphere® technology
Read that properly. These are not waterproof like a lot of people think. No loosely woven material like denim can be waterproof. These are no more water resistant than a pair of Tesco Value with a NikWax treatment and the ‘technology’ won’t last more than a few washes, guaranteed. And when I have oil or grease on my hands I rub it all over my jeans, I am a man and that’s how I roll, if I was a spice boy then maybe I would need dirt repellent NonoBollox.Sanitized® odor protection
‘Sanitized odor protection’, LOL, when your jeans are dirty wash them.3M™ Scotchlite™ reflective tape on interior cuffs
Reflectors on your turn-ups are completely useless, you should be riding with lights in the dark anyway.U-lock storage
Nobody wears jeans without a belt, put your lock under your belt, it works 100% perfectly well. Also, the ‘storage’ is on the left, I’m pretty sure most people put their lock on the right but then you’d be covering the precious Levi’s logo, God forbid.Utility pockets
This is another way of selling you POCKETS. These are a 5 pocket jean, like all jeans.Double-layered seat and back pockets
Jeans wear out, big fucking deal. The last thing you want when riding is more layers of fabric between your ass and the saddle.Higher back rise
My arse has never ever fallen out of my jeans when riding, I wear jeans that fit and underneath (I’ll let you into a secret here) I wear boxer shorts.
Don’t waste your money on these jeans, just buy a normal pair from a company that supports cycling or skateboarding. There are plenty of small brands making really decent jeans with 2% stretch out there. It’s good to remember that Levi’s threatened to sue howies back in 2003 over the placement of a teeny tiny little tag, that’s the sort of big bully behaviour you’ll be supporting if you buy these things.
If you’ve convinced yourself (been sucked in by the marketing!) that you need Levi’s Commuter jeans maybe you are missing the whole point of cycling, just a thought."
"- What? So you're more manly the dirtier your jeans are, so if they're clean you're a pansy? Personally I've watched water roll off these jeans, not just absorb like my other jeans, and anything that keeps me dryer if I get caught in a rain shower is good in my eyes.
- Can't say I've ever worried about my jeans smelling, not much to argue on there.
- Reflective bits aren't useless. Particularly ones that give more side visability and will be moving around so grab attention more.
- Haven't used the lock strap yet so can't comment on how well it works. It's a nice touch and unobtrusive, you wouldn't know it's there unless you get shown. Does what side it's on really matter?
- Except the pockets have elastic corners so won't rip, allow them to move with your leg and there's an extra one above the right rear pocket for multi tools and the like.
- That's the whole point. Jeans wear out from cycling, these ones should last much longer. This is the most important point for me, buying new jeans every 3 months sucks.
- Well done for not having your trousers by your ankles. Personally I don't like getting rain down the back of my trousers or showing the world my boxers in low rise jeans.
I like that more companies are making and putting effort in to cycling specific clothing. I look forward to the day when you can walk in to a clothes shop and pick up some cycling jeans next to all the other cuts and finishes. Oh wait, maybe I've just missed the whole point of cycling, my bad.

I like sumo's review better, but the other has more foul language, which I find very persuasive.
Do they do fat boy sizes?
I think they are doing 36 and 38w, and Levi's sizing seems generous to me., but sizes for us "larger gents" seem to be harder to find.

I have three pairs. Two from the missus and a pair from a pal who went to NYC and picked a pair up for me. I like the way they've worn and they're comfy enough. I mean - WTF do you want from a pair of jeans?!
-
• #22
To those who have a pair...how is the cough crotch area? Jeans I cycle in seem to wear prematurely there
The swrve ones have a "seamless gusseted crotch" which they claim to improve comfort and reduce wear. Anyone vouch for this?
That said it could well be my saddle causing the wear which makes this whole post obsolete

Happy to report that both the cod and hoop regions are fine.
-

Hmm, you got me (almost) curious there B&D.
I like mine, but then I didn't pay £80, more like £55 in the states (or a bit more).
The crotch double gusset isn't that big but it's holding up well.I hate when you get 'cheek shine' in jeans. Unavoidable probably.

Cheek shine? Pics?
In case you weren't aware of this......For those who are in to denim.
