In the run up to the Mayor of London election, Living Streets (in partnership with Campaign for Better Transport and Movement for Liveable London) is organising a transport hustings. Boris Johnson, Ken Livingstone, Brian Paddick and Jenny Jones have all confirmed that they or a senior representative will attend.

The event is your chance to quiz candidates on how they plan to keep London moving over the next four years. And find out how they would go about creating a safer, cleaner and better London for everyone.

hey bendix, how on earth do I choose a question to ask? Where do i begin? Is there an emphasis on pedestrians or thing closer to the Living Streets agenda?

ALso will this sell out? Do I need to get in quick?

you don't have to choose a question, and it's transport generally (it's in partnership with Campaign for Better Transport and Movement for Liveable London who cover everything), but if you do want to choose one we've had lots relating to things like car free days, extension of the congestion charge, making cycling more accessible, representation at board level in TfL for walking and cycling, 20 mph speed limits, emissions targets, driver attitudes to name a few...

There've been a couple of hundred bookings so far but get your name on there now and you should be fine.

Really enjoyable event - thanks bendix et al. Sorry we sloped off at the end.

I was really impressed with a lot of what the candidates said (one obvious exception) and there were some great ideas. Some that I had never considered before and some that I was surprised to hear being considered by major parties. I'm not sure if I should be excited or suspicious.

If there is any interest I can add some notes about who said what.

Last time Ken was in power he relied on Jenny for advice about cycling which gave us the Boris bikes and the superhighways (Which are crap but perhaps were filtered via the pro-motoring traffic smoothing Boris). Jenny will get my vote!

LCC? Yes I wondered that too. I vaguely recall that Oliver said at easts (yes after a few..) that they can express an opinion here

Interesting question! If you read section E of this http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/Publications/cc9.aspx
then I think you can say they are on the right side of the rules, because in the above linked article they don't actually recommend who to vote for, they just critique the cycling policies of the main candidates. This is great information to use when deciding if you care about cycling in London, which isn't quite the same thing as a recommendation...
