Just the frame, or the whole bike? If whole bike, then this is pretty good: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/FBPXPRORIV12/planet_x_pro_carbon_rival_road_bike_2012

Canyon Ultimate CF seems pretty good value, albeit £90 over his budget

You can get a Look 566 for about £1050 if you shop around.

Canyon ultimate CF on the outlet store (last year's almost the same paintwork, same frame) for £960. I got one and it's the best decision I could have made. Brilliant frame awesome price and straight from the factory brilliance.

Its kind of a tough one.
Just from a quick browse I'm not sure £1k is an easy price. Most of the £1k frames dont look like great value. Something like the new PX frame or the carbon Kinesis look good.
Would it be worth going to a decent shop and chatting to them?

£5 over budget but these are awesome.

if you're going to a shop then the price you're paying is for the place you're standing, the person you're talking to, the tills to ring up your bill and THEN the frame.

... and the experience that might stop you buying something totally unsuitable.

they always recommend from the stuff they have in the shop.
you are not likely to get a good deal on a carbon frame from a shop. -

^^ pretty much what I was thinking. £1k is a fair bit of money.
If it's just a frame then I'd have thought that would buy you a decent chat and some good advice.
...or you could go for this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cannondale-System-Six-Road-Bike-Frame-56cm-Immaculate-/120878495896?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item1c24eb7898#ht_505wt_1396
I think for just a frame around that price, ebay is probably best:

Love Your LBS.
I'm not loving my LBS for markup of 30-50% on a frameset.

im quite lucky with my LBS they let me buy certain things at cost, for example the frame. But the LFGSS opinion is a vital part of the bike decision process

you are not likely to get a good deal on a carbon frame from a shop.Good deal = cheap. Cheap != good.
I always got good deals from my shop because I always bought from my shop. If you always buy online why should a shop discount for you?
For the record I got a great deal from Sigma on my S-Works but that was through BDW's contact who's no longer there.
any ideas im thinking of splurging
