How do I pick a seatpost?

  • Hi

I've just ordered a Bob Jackson Vigorelli Fixed Frame
most bits will come form my old bike that died.

But I will need a seatpost its needs to be 27.2

    How do I pick one?
I'd quite like it as plain as possible.

length? or does it matter - they all seem to be 300 - 350mm. can I saw it shorter?

    Aluminium, steel, or carbon?

    2nd hand off ebay?

  • Eeny meeny miny mo.....

  • walk into a shop. chose one. pick it up. walk to the counter. pay the employee the specified amount. take it home. DONE

  • Click on the buy it now button.

  • I have an old aero Campagnolo one on muine. Looks nice.

Depends how you're building up the bike TBH.

  • Offset, yes or no, and how much
Preferably not 1 bolt saddle clamp
    Scratches above min. insertion mark
    Black or silver
    Matt or gloss
    Aluminium
Clamp that matches the shape of the saddle rails
Yes, you can cut it, no matter what material, but it can weaken the seat post and the frame.

  • the choice was so tough i've decided to ride round without one
    seems fine

  • i like the shiny ones

  • I've got a campag areo one, just need a bike that it'll fit and look nice on :/

The main thing is fit, do you need offset or straight, then looks, but money may impact 1 or both of the affor mentioned priorities

  • Seatpost has to be the same make and colour as the bars and stem, unless it is part of the groupset.

  • Dammit, you need help.

  • help weighing it?

  • Seatpost has to be the same make and colour as the bars and stem, unless it is part of the groupset.

Just what I told my mum when she bought me my new bars and stem, had to get the matching seat post!!

The other exception is if it's a amazingly nice seat post, or on a new bike if it's a Thompson
