I'm interested in exactly the same thing, except substitute endurance/pursuit for sprinting. Doubt I'd be a regular but I'd certainly be interested in dipping in and out if I thought it would add to intermediate and Monday evening sessions. (Or on a weekend when Saturday's been rained off.)
Would there typically be enough in attendance to guarantee you'd get a good pursuit (/sprint) work-out just from turning up and joining in the most suitable group, or would a forum such as this be useful/necessary for riders to pre-plan?

If you know what drills/training you want to do then you will find Sundays very useful.if you don't then maybe the session isn't the one for you.
If you want progression go racing.

^ I take your point, and I intend to race, but it would be somewhat remiss to not practice and train in the meantime.
I suppose what I really want to know is whether or not there is a sprint 'group' or do people just pitch up and do their drills alone, albeit on the same track at the same time? If it's the latter then I'll do that, it's just that I would have appreciated some general pointers for the first few sessions.

There is a sprint group.everybody in it have got training plans that fit around their racing targets.
I think the key bit is that Sunday is not coached. If you feel you need coaching then other days may be better.
If you feel you will get something out of Sunday training then why not turn up and ride? You will soon know if it's right for you or not.

Sound advice; I'll do that.
I'm sure it's dictated by demand but there's no real way 'in' to sprinting at Herne Hill as there is for the endurance types.

Come to Wednesday night race league when it starts. It's a great, non-formal way of getting into racing. It'll sort your fitness out quick too.
There was a sprinters ladder last year, and there of pelnty of sprinters who race most weeks. They do a handycap sprint every week too... Which is fun if you're shit at sprinting like me!
A few of the sprinters race in the bunch races too, and most of them do very well! -

Sunday is most definitely for riders that already race. It's largely pointless to do such specific training if you don't.
All the sprinters have targets at either national and/or world masters competition, they are also all coached riders in that they have training plans with their sessions tailored individually. For riders who think they would like to try pursuiting or sprinting, then Monday night race training will give you some experience, as will Wednesday nights and the monthly open racing.
Not wishing to put anyone off by any means, but simply turning up and attempting to join in with someone else's training may not necessarily be the best thing for riders with little or no racing experience. I appreciate there's a perceived gap in progression from intermediate bunch training to sprint training but this is amply covered by Mondays, where you will learn the important safety issues which come in to play when doing efforts in a line of riders at full speed.

Had a good time on Sunday. Its a good session but you need to have your own idea of what you want to do.
You don't have to be doing sprint stuff though, everyone was happy for me to plod around doing my 2K pursuit intervals.
Can't wait for next weekend now... -

NO Sunday session 8th April (Easter Sunday)
Nearly all regulars will be in Majorca or not wanting to train because they raced today.
I didn't want to open up for one or two people so made the call. It'll be freezing anyway ;) -

OK, see you the Sun after?

Nooooooooooooooooo

It is forecast for rain anyway, so get your turbos or weights out.
I'll be back on the 22nd, will find someone to open up for next week (hopefully)

Fucking weather, eh? I had something interesting planned too. Not at Herne Hill mind. Plus, Thursdays is weights day.

OK, looking fwd- hopefully the weather plays along!

Hope the weather holds out tomorrow
-

I'm not sure "holds out" is appropriate! A complete reversal of current weather and the forecast is required!
Ie. it's not looking promising :( -

Predictably, canceled.
Here's a quick snap of the rain radar for this morning, mad!

Eastbourne looks ok, I might head down there for some sun.

It's moving, by the time you get there it'll be covered. No escape.

The UK is on fire!
Ok, new thread because the last two have been year specific.
Here's what it says on the website about the Sunday sessions:
"An un-structured session for experienced riders who need to do specific sprint or pursuit drills. There will be no bunch training as you get on Saturdays and Mondays.
By un-coached this doesn’t mean that there is no coach present just that you will need to know what training you wish to do and inform the lead coach at the beginning of the session. Sprint and pursuit efforts, either solo or with other riders, standing starts and sprint observation skills are the mainstays of this session.
We usually find that each group rotates through a 10-15min on/off schedule. So plenty of time for your 4-5 efforts plus rest in between, provided you turn up promptly for 0900."
Is this well attended already and is there much of a sprint presence? If the session had remained the same as last year I would have just turned up and got involved. I understand that the idea is people arrive with a notion of what they want to do but there is no sprint progression at HH so I don't know where else to go from the Saturday intermediate and Monday night race prep sessions. I'm never going to be an endurance rider.
