Wipperman 1 R8 BMX chain 'spring clip'

  • Hi

I've got a wipperman 1R8 bmx chain from my lbs to fit on my fixed. Totally totally baffled by the spring clip.

I don't understand how to disassemble it. Do you use a chain breaker? I've searched the Internet and can't find any instructions.

    This is the clip:

It comes built like that and loose in the box with a length of tank armour strength chain. (Wiggle | Wippermann BMX 1R8 Single Speed Chain Chains)

I know it's probably dead simple but can anyone tell me how to do this? Don't want to bust the link and end up forking out for another chain.

    Thanks!!!!!!!!!

  • Why would you want to disassemble it? Do you mean you've fitted the chain but want to reduce its length again?

  • Use a screwdriver to lever the open end of the outer plate off the pin, then slide it away from the other pin and the link will come apart. Replace it by pushing the plate with the two pins through the links, push the plate with two holes over the pins, then put the clip closed end on one pin, and spring the other open end over the other pin. Just make sure when you put it back that the closed end of the clip is pointing in the direction the chain will go when you are pedalling
Think of it as a fish swimming against the current

Thanks man, you've saved my bacon.

Just disassemble the spring clip link not the rest of the chain.

Adroit's cleared it all up. Cheers.
