not sure if aluminium is alright to drill, either way I would leave it as it is
front brake + coaster?

so you want to drill a vigorelli frame as a short term solution until you can leran da Skidz? why would your legs be spinning all over the place if it's SS?
you have 2 solutions
get it fixed right now and put a front brake on it
get a different bike

Not really sure what a coaster brake is but i've heard some terrible things about them... My friend has an aluminium frame and his one is drilled. Also I heard that another alternative is to attack a specialized brake onto the frame without drills, I spoke to my local bike dealer today about it.

It may be worth looking at a cheap beater frame for the duration, with drillings... Visp or something like that?

Clamp on brake?
http://www.tracksupermarket.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=582
ahh yeah those, would you recommend them?

Never tried one, my bikes have holes for bolts ;p
I don't recall reading any horror stories of them failing, and you use the front for most of your braking anyway. And that way you don't fuck up your frame, so resale value, general aesthetics etc are not affected.

There are also other keirin brakes/options for mounting a rear brake with a plate clamp thingy between the rear stays.. Don't know if the clamps for the dia compe brake will work with the form of the stays of the Cinelli

don't drill your aluminium frame.
Actually, do, and keep a log on how long it takes before it goes awry. I will take bets by pm. I think I see a way out of my crippling debt.

Hmm I was thinking of trying those clamp brakes first
Oh right... just noticed the joke ;)

Clamp on brakes are not a great solution. The fitting moves all the time (as some people in this forum has experienced)
Also don't even think of drilling. The bridge in those stays has thin walls, it will provably loose all resistance when you brake a couple of times. It will end up bending and you will ruin the frame.
Invest on a cheap road frame with horizontal dropouts or even a VISP as CasaEsteve said. Something that you can use as winter bike.

Sell it and buy something more suited to the type of riding you want to do. If you drill it it'll either buckle on you and you'll get hurt or it'll never sell and you'll end up dumping it or letting it rot in a shed somewhere.
Trust me, I have a beard. It brings wisdom.

Alright, so I guess drilling is out of the question. It's either use those clamp brakes (£29) or a new frame (>£29) :/

Maybe sell this, buy a different frame to tide you over and then buy another when it's more suitable? You will probably lose out at the end of the day, but that's better than drilling and potentially ruining the frame altogether.
Or, try a coaster brake on the rear. Single speed, kick back brake... what's not to like? :D

You want to drill a brake hole in a Vigorelli? Holy crap.

To be honest it's a few months till summer, thats when i'd changed it to fixed. I've read some clamp reviews and people are actually saying they do the job, might aswell give it ago.

This is what I meant: googled rear keirin brake.. Search on from there..
I was thinking of temporarily having a rear brake on the Cinelli Vigorelli track frame while i'm here in kent, where I have to go down hill almost everyday and it isn't pleasent when your legs are flying all over the place.
So I wanted to know if I could get this frame drilled:
I tried to find information about this but had no success, Apparently you can drill in almost any frame, to me the bridge looks wide enough...
Thanks
