Noob question - Tool identification

Posted on
  • Hey guys,

I know I will probably get flamed for starting one of the stupidest threads ever, but here's my problem: I recently acquired an IceToolz Toolbox, and found out that there are some tools in there that I can't identify. Instead of having a list of tools, the toolbox comes with some pictorial diagrams, some of which are more self-explanatory than others...
So here is my question to you guys: Could any of you guys tell me the name of the tools in the pictures, from left to right? (I actually know that the first one is a crank extractor, but I don't have a clue about the rest...)

I just need the names, then I can google, UTFS and so on. The internet is an amazing place, but only if you know what you are looking for.

    Anyway, thanks in advance guys!

p.s. tell me if the pics don't work, and sorry about the less-than-optimal quality!

  • pic 1 from left to right:

    crank pull
    splined BB cup remover
    cassette locknut remover
    crank (hollowtech) dust cap remover
pin tool for removing particular type of BB bearing cup

  • ^what does he win?

    i didn't know 4 or 5

  • Cheers carson, awesome, very much appreciated!

  • i'm guessing nb 4 is the dust cap remover cos i can't see the other side of it - from the side that is showing it looks like you could also use it to remove external bearing cups too (but without being able to apply much torque)

  • I googled "dust cap remover" and "external bearing cup remover" and I think it is the latter.

  • from the pic it looks like it's got something on the other side - that's the dust cap remover
    something like this

  • Now I get what you mean. Yes, that's exactly how it looks like from the other side, so it's two tools in one right?

  • looks like it

  • You put an 8mm allenkey in the centre to inset/remove the external BB cup. Strange that the one pictured there ^^^ doesn't have anything to give you leverage. Oh and the other side isn't for a dustcap, it's a bearing tensioner. Like when you tension headset bearings. You just need to tighten that by hand, or use a torque wrench.
