i've played guitar since i was a nipper and was 30 last month so decided to get a uke for my birthday as i know i can keep it forever and it's a fun hobby too
i've had the skiffle for over 10 years but the martin is from ebay US and i got it for about £150 (bargain!)
in the 3 weeks it took to arrive i got anxious and bought a cheap lanikai too but now i really fancy a tenor uke to try and do more interesting finger arrangements on that bigger neck
these also arrived in the post today... ( the tickets)

p.s the skiffle will probably be for sale to fund a new uke in the next month or so

I saw the uke orchestra in Potters bar last year. It was bizzare, filled with oldies who weren't quite sure what they had turned up to see. They put on a great concert none the less, although the old folks weren't too impressed with their rendition of ACDC as the finale...

no not yet! but i think i'll probably for for a tenor banjo uke as my next rather than a normal body
i want to nail the formby triple
;) if you're thinking of taking it up spend £40 on a lanikai or kala soprano then upgrade if you feel the need. my martin sounds infinitely better than the lanikai but it's the same amount of fun

We've got three in our house. A basic one that's red, an electro acoustic one of my wifes and a knackered banjolele that needs a new skin. Love the things, need to play them more.
Also I'd really love an electric one, to play very loud and distorted, a little like warren ellis. Difficult to find such a thing, old fender mandocasters are pricey, and non existent left handed. Ellis' sinature thing is also not lefty, (http://www.eastwoodguitars.com/Other/warrenEllisSignatureTenor/warrenEllis_frm.htm drool). I could make one but don't have the time and resources at the mo.

holy shit that ellis thing is amazing.want.

Or you could go the whole hog, which is just get a shitty violin, gaffa tape a guitar pickup to it, and play it like a guitar, which is what ellis does most of the time. Love the dirty three.

I bought the missus one last year after she raved about wanting one.
She hasn't gone near the fucking thing since I bought it. Le sigh.
Might just try learn myself, though I've not tried a musical instrument since murdering the trombone when I was about nine.

The advertising hasn't quite worked on Wayne has it, he was supposed to join matchmaker.com not buy the Ukele
come on, own up - who else is addicted to uke? and yes... it is directly proportionate to how hipster you are.
