spend a little more get a whole lot more
i've had a nice karrimor hot earth i bought in 1991 still perfectly good, using it every day have travelled with it 20 years worth of good times ! -

The Edinburgh Cycles own brand Revolution back pack gets good reviews and is reasonably priced:

Macpac, Berghaus and OMM are all bags that I've used and been excellent.

Karrimor's owned by SPort Direct now and has been very poor for a long time. Aparently they are starting to get better agian, but I'd steer clear for a while. -

No worries - if you go on eBay you'll see that Hot Earth and Hot Ice packs from when you bought yours still reach a really good price - seen as a bit of a design (and build-quality) classic.
My backpack is nearing the end of it's life. Served me well with one exception it was not waterproof.
Pretty clueless as what decent bags are available in the price range been looking at these two:
