  • Went for it!

Although familiar to a few Folk here, it's new to me and is now very much a current project I'm excited about.

Most parts have come from the recent strip down of my Roberts Track and Taylor Bikes, a couple parts are recently sourced and a couple still to come.....

The main idea was to turn two slightly compromised (by my actual needs) bikes into one that ticks all the boxes, for now...

Anyway, nice to have it documented. If for nothing else, the safety having it highlighted amongst the forum should it go a wondering.

Custom Burls Ti Frame originally made for theCrane, via Flickwg

Easton EC90 SL full carbon fork inc. dropouts. Chris King Headset

Mack SF Hubs laced to Mavic Open Pro CD

Sugino 75's, MKS Pedals/Straps and Cages

Selle Italia Flite "Carbonio" Saddle, or maybe Fizik Arione Ti

    Enve Seatpost w/Setback

    Phil BB

    Thomson X2

    Paul Cross and Sram Caliper.

    Time Atac when clipless

Bars are in transit, could arrive any minute, then i can disappear to the shed and build it up....

  • Very nice :-)

  • Ah so you bought it! This was playing with my wallet for quite a while. A dream bike. Looks like you'll do a lot nicer job that I will.

Oh and I thought the easton fork was undrilled?

  • This is now the best bike on the forum, I can tell you that before you've built it up.
The only thing that would make it better would be enve track fork...

    risers, yeh?

Ahh, i heard there was someone else agonising with me ;) The Easton is drilled for brake. All are, no?

Have you started riding bigger frames suddenly?

Nice project - I should get my 3 Ti 'Currents' up!

No, I haven't (58 tt and 60 st) and yes, you should :)

The Merlin and Roberts are/were a touch shorter (1cm) but made up with the stem (plus i couldn't resist either) and this has a much shorter TT and higher HT than the Taylor, which was needed. Saying that, i'm figuring it all out and haven't had a proper bike fit, which i really should.

Hah, not sure about that J, but I'm pretty happy so far.

Those Enve Forks are damn nice, but the Easton's will do for now. Plus, Im totally spent out with the Frameset and couple of bits I have got for it. Might be a nice upgrade down the line, though a set of their rims would probably come first ;)

Have a set of drops coming. Hopefully they'll turn up soon, as I'm itching to get on it now.

  • Finally, Handlebars!! Sun is shining and i'm off to build this up and go riding.....

    :)

  • You've come full circle there.No?

  • Hah, yep. Though these are 40cm width, which is better for me than the 38's

  • Finally, Handlebars!! Sun is shining and i'm off to build this up, take some pictures and then go riding.....

    :)

    You're welcome.

Pictures first, surely. Love this frame.

  • Couple of pics (not great) but i was too impatient to take it out.

Few minor tweaks needed, but rides beautifully.

Cheers to theCrane for getting the Frame made and to Flickwg for being too tall for it :)

and thanx for the bits, C.B. for the stem swap, Kingcutter for the bars, aaronphoto for the rear soma tyre, 1000archangels for the saddle

  • Lush.

  • Your welcome it's amazing what a difference 2cm make.

  • straight to porn IMHO!

  • n.i.c.e!

  • Looks great, have fun riding it

  • Awesome. Pretty much exactly as I would have done it. Still can't work out whether I'll get titanium or steel when I get something custom. This frame makes a strong claim for ti.

  • Thanks for the kind words, i'm real happy with it. Perhaps an obvious build in some ways, but does it justice nonetheless.

^I don't suppose you'll go far wrong with Ti, or a high end Steel. Depends on it's main use I guess. Personally, I am loving the feel and aesthetics of Ti and it'll spend more time being an 'all-day' bike than a track bike.

    I knew it.
    Nicest bike on here.
Still can't see any risers...what gives?!

Making the decision is the best bit anyway; I'm sure I'll spin it out for at least another year.

    Enjoy the Burls.

  • Awesome build

Definitely! Any decisions on the Builder?

  • Wow! Nice work

Well, I'm a Yorkshireman by birth so a Bobby J would be fitting. Might go the Mercian route though, they aren't that much more if you're comparing custom with custom. £650 against £725.
