-
• #3

Un-machined A23's?
-
• #6
the headtube angle looks weird, maybe just the pic - is that a short v2?
are you planning to have a front brake with those forks?

yeah its a short v2 frame, front brake? errrr no. brakeless all the way. wouldnt dare have the forks ruined by adapting them.....

horses for courses - i am getting canti mounts welded on to my v1 forks tomorrow!

Zipp service course short/shallow, black Thomson x2, Mavic open pro CD's, wham bam, thank you mam.

Sound like my Brooklyn, but with brakes.
Don't diss the brakes, and Brooklyn are not an unique snowflake (they probably are with the awful customer service).

Good shout with the wheels mate. I'm running a rear black Chub on an A23 and it's smoooooooth and very fast. Unfortunately I got hit by a taxi twat so it's being rebuilt atm.. My front is also an A23 but I've got a Goldtec Pro on it instead.. It is machined though as my forks came with canti weld ons and I threw a brake on over winter.. Hope yours work out good, I think you'll love the rims..
I've never ridden drops on my bike but either risers or bulls which I find the best for all round getting the power down and comfort. Let us know what drops you go with, interesting to know..
Take care and good luck with the build mate :) -

Take care and good luck with the build mate :)thanks man, ive been riding bullhorns for nearly 2 years, tried some road drops, fell in love.
ive decided on easton ea70s, nice ergo shape, pretty light, good reviews...Sound like my Brooklyn, but with brakes.

what bad customer service did you get?? -

CS is doesn't exist pretty much. They don't answer emails and anytime I've called don't answer either. Tokyo said they were brutal too and they are buying loads off them.

gutted. thought they were a pretty good company. at least il probably never have to call them about a broken frame....
the back wheel is being built this week, waiting on bars arriving.
having no fixed bike is killing me. riding with a freewheel just isn't as fun.

What's the issue with Chubs?
-
• #18
Cheers Eamsey :)
Easton ea70's are noice, they'll suit the BMW well I reckon.
BMW are insanely awful for CS, emailed them numerous times intending to give them my monies and never did they reply.. Think that going via TFG or there in person is the only way of ever establishing contact!
This is my second Chub and never had any issues with either (never owned front ones though).. I love them for their low weight and once laced the wheels never went out of true, they look completely different from anything else around aswell. I guess that could the problem? Thinking they'll look awful, however, if on the wrong build. My new black one has a machined edge to it so it's a bit different to the all matt ones that are actually on Chub's photos.. -

Even going through TFG, I find it impossible to get a new fork with canti mount welded already, end up going for a carbon fork instead and managed to get the bike weight down to 8.8kg.
Going to get Mack hubs + A23 to drop the weight further down to 8.5kg I hope.

What's the issue with Chubs?
Don't think there is one, I remember someone talking about the flange combine with deep section rims causing more stress on the spokes, but this is all heresay, as I don't think anyone have problem or issue with them.
I don't think 300g for a rear hubs is particularly light, especially when compared to a cheap Amborsio/System EX/et all that weight something like 285g.

I have a new build (for which I'll create an appropriate thread) and wanted to stick Chubs on it, but I got frowns of despair when I suggested using them.
I'm going for Royce instead.
-
• #22
you got frowns? did they says why? personally I think they look like internal gear hubs, but still look great.
-
• #23
Ugly was a word that was mentioned.
-
• #24
You mean "Scobled".
-
• #25
don't cave to other peoples pressure. all my friends tell me my bike is ugly as fuck all the time, but i love it. build something you love, not something that others are going to approve of.
yeah scoble i saw you got the easton fork, doesnt austin horse ride one as well?
big money for that like....
look what came in the post!
ive had my gangsta for nearly 18 months, and decided it needed an overhaul!
here is how it used to be built up -

so, now im building it up with a longer stem, road drops (any suggestions would be appreciated), new cranks (sram omnium), and chub hubs laced to velocity a23s.....
also in the process of sanding and polishing the frame and fork, gonna clearcoat it i think....
here she is now -
