My mate's bike started doing this but then we tightened it up and I told him to ley off skidding for a few days so that his legs would tighten up the cog bit more then tightened the lockring again after a few days and there's no problem anymore.

what is your setup? for example some mavic ellipse wheelsets have had issues when a spacer may be needed as lockring may well go tight on the threading but not tight to the sprocket..

if you are using the wrong lockring on a differently threaded hub then it might be impossible to tighten the lockring and prevent it slipping
if not this ^ then tighten the be'jeesus out of it

It's a halo hub and lockring so shouldn't be a problem there. I'll try laying off skidding for a bit cheers, only thing I'm worried about is whether the threads knackered could that be a possibility?

What kind of lockring tool are you using? Is it single-sided or is it a clamp type one? I have found that the single sided lockring tools just don't cut the mustard.

does it slip just for a second and then tighten up again? Or come completely loose/off each time?

Fit cog, tighten lockring, visually check there is contact between them (some cogs are narrow, which means they don't protrude enough on some hubs to be held by the lockring) if you can see that the lockring is definitely tightening against the cog, tighten it up. Now, go and find a big hill and sprint/grind up it as heavily on the pedals as possible... when you get to the top, tighten your lockring.
This should sort it.
Also, I reccomend a high quality tool such as the shimano above, really cannot explain how much better that is that the cheaper ones, having bent a cheaper chainwhip, and damaged cogs/knuckles with cheaper lockring tools....

Tightened my sprocket and lockring as much as possible without destroying the threads. However when I cycle and skid stop the sprocket keeps slipping and the lock ring slips any suggestions? Cheers
