Kona Jake the snake

So I've been looking at getting a road bike for a while and seemed to miss out on 2011 deals. Either too big or too small. I managed to pick up a Kona Jake the snake frame and fork just before christmas.

I was a little hesitant about using a cx bike on the road due to what I'd heard and read about the brakes not quite having the same kind of power as duel pivots. But figured that if it worked I would be able to use this bike in the winter with mudguards, in the summer without mudguards and/or luggage racks(for a spot of light touring) and then hopefully if I actually commit to giving cx a go a few races next winter before retiring it as a commuter and upgrading to a new road bike.

Not a particularly fancy build, didn't try and save weight on anything so I suspect it will probably weigh in at a healthy 11.5kg(ish). Got a great deal on campag wheels and a campag groupset so went that route.

Looking forward to taking it out to Sevenoaks at the weekend for a shakedown ride.

Looks good and sounds like a good all rounder, i wish I could be that level headed. I hope you enjoy riding it. It looks like a long cage on the deraileur, what gearing are you running?

Lol, I thought the TS bought it of Jake the Snake.

I'm running a 13-26 on the rear and 34/50 up front. I got a medium cage so that if I gear down for racing I can run a 29t on the rear.

That's my bike... This is awkward...

I'm somewhat confused?

After a spring and summer of road riding the bike has finally got dirty with a couple of CX races.

The first was basically a grass crit but Round 8 of the Wessex league at Oxford Brooks was pretty wet.

CX are great "do all" bikes but tbh I never had any great feeling towards this bike until I put some cx tyres on it. It's soo much happier doing what it was designed to and I now "Like" this bike where as whilst using it as a road bike I was a bit indifferent.
