  • Went in this shop to ask if they had a pocket lockring tool, as I have had loose lockring trouble and don't want to carry around a massive tool.

They said "all we have for fixies is this, which is very popular in the trendy fixie scene, it can even open beers!":

its not even a lockring tool!

    What a joke.

  • Cool story bro

  • I went in there once. the guy wasn't particularly friendly, nor was he unpleasant. I bought an inner tube and left.

    I thought I should share

  • I know right! like oh my god! wowzer!

  • ^overcompensating

  • OYB is one of the best bike shops in London. You can always have a bad experience even in the best bike shop--for the most part, people who like it and shop there frequently don't mention them much.

Is there even such a thing as a pocket lockring tool? ;)

    #refusestoGoogle

  • Depends on the size of your pocket Oliver...

    Not a euph

  • Is there even such a thing as a pocket lockring tool? ;)

    I hope so!

  • to be fair I live on the other side of London, I was impressed by the size of the place and they seem to have a massive workshop in the back

  • Pedro's Trixie tool

  • John Gabriel Greater Internet Dickwad Theory in full effect.

  • ^lol

  • Pedro's Trixie tool

This. Although mine is attached to the bottle cage bosses on my seat tube.

  • Oh and OYB have been average, not great, not poor, probably best described as alright.

  • They are quite friendly, usually.

  • I have one horror story about somebody at OYB that defies belief however due to the fact the person in question was sacked years ago, its not really fair to tar them with the same brush.

I use OYB all the time. They're expensive for some things and they rarely have any fixed gear parts but staff seem friendly enough and their workshop always seems happy to check their parts bins for odds and sods when I need them...normally provided free.

It is what it is...a large urban bike shop that caters mainly for the nodder but who also has some rather tasty roadie gear in there too.

  • Neither Evans or cyclesurgery stock sidi shoes. OYB does. True story

They didn't says it's a lockring tools, they says it's all they have for the fixie skidder in you.

Plus, sound like your lockring is too thin.

  • Lockring too thin?!

Not the first bike shop I've come across that knows not the way of the fixie.

Cycles UK in greenwich...staff know sod all about anything other than downill MTB and know fck all about fixed. Which is fine really because 99% of their trade is nodders. Always happy to try to help though.

  • ^They have the grumpiest mechanic I have ever met, FACT

  • Plus, sound like your lockring is too thin.

    Girth euph?

  • Lockring too thin?!

Yep, that or the cog is too thin to get enough purchase between the lockring and cog to stop it from getting unscrewed.

    After they've met you...
