Possible bike theft Victoria Street

  • Damn. I think I just witnessed the tail end of a bike theft and didn't do anything about it!
Walking West along Victoria Street at lunch time and I see a guy steering 'his' bike from the pavement into the road attempting to mount. Something didn't add up for me though as he did not seem to know how to use the pedal cages, was too small for the bike and had no cycle paraphernalia with him. It clicked pretty soon as he was wobbling off in the other direction, but I was on the other side of the road and obviously had no proof I stupidly let it go.

On the way back from the shops I crossed to look at the bike stand he had come from and sure enough there was a cut wire cable on the floor. Now part of me thinks if you are stupid enough to tie your bike using one of these lone then you deserve what you get, which is probably true, but nonetheless someone will be missing a bike now.

A black Chris Boardman road bike. Being ridden away by a small bloke probably about 5'9 , dark hair and skin, possibly Turkish or Romanian. Dressed all in black.
You can be sure I will keep my eyes peeled for the little fucker in future and follow him if I see him. Cunt!

  • Bum!

  • Scumbag. Does amaze me what some people use to lock their bikes though. How can you possibly think a thin cable lock will deter a thief?!

  • Definitely naive to expect a cable lock to save your bike, but I don't think anyone "deserves" to be the victim of crime.

    Just saying.

    Not funny.

  • I know two people who have had bikes nicked from victoria street in the last two months.

Interesting. Do you know exactly whereabouts? I know what the scum bag looks like now so I will definitely follow him and smack him in the back of the head if he tries anything

SW1 has the highest rate of bike thefts in London, I believe

  • I, and a couple of other forumers, lock up at the racks outside Nero on Howick Pl.

I will be keeping my eyes peeled, and will be using my best locks.

  • Dangerously close as this happened on the bike locks outside Pizza Express

  • Don't blame yourself, Mike, as this was probably the last thing you'd expect. You're not a police person trained in observing such things. Do make a report to the Cycle Task Force, especially if, and it appears to be the case from postings on this thread, there are thieves targeting the area. Contact details here--a quick message pointing them to this thread will probably be enough:

Ok, My apologies for this flippant comment and to those whom I might have offended.

I overstepped the mark and showed poor judgement in not removing the post as soon as someone commented on its unsuitability.

Hands up I was a proper Dickhead.

  • Took your time, but at least you apologised.
