38 pages of lightweight and drillium classic parts, the derailleur's start at about page 16 and make your guys work look like amateur hour .. IMHO

  • you cant just take bits and drill them through!

  • Thats exactly what they used to do

  • you cant just take bits and drill them through!

    Why?

  • Jesus!

  • I'd be scared to go anywhere near most of this stuff!

  • I'd be scared to go anywhere near most of this stuff!

At the time even the likes of Merckx used drillium parts. FEA sorta put an end to drillium anyway .. although you could contest that some parts are still overbuilt to suit cost. Need proof look at the Sram Rival vs Red rear derailleur side by side. They are near indentical apart from the materials used and some further detail machining on the Red, so the Rival is overbuilt to a cost point.

I can see you talk shite as a sport. Fucken hell....

  • awww, I got a fanboy now <3

  • am terrified for Dammit's safety if he hears that drilling parts can save weight, not sure how his crabon bits will respond to the drillium treatment

  • watch out, last time I wrote something carbon-related I got nerged!

  • did he nerg you for the o/s crabon measurement comment?

  • Drillium stuff was used in races. Most short term. Perhaps they tested their equipment to the limits, but it was still safer than daily commuting with a fat arse on a drilled out skinny bike in London.

  • It worked rather well for one guy...

  • There once was a story of Eddy Merckx, it appeared he had drilled his own bones to be lighter.

Too bad the story wasn't true :(

  • So I was thinking of drilling some parts to reduce weight. Does any one have any experience in the matter?

  • Talk to the owner of this

  • Haha wow that's mad. You don't happen to actually know whose that is do you?
