Chromed Rims

Posted on
  • Hello everyone. Want to build the wheels for my project, but got stuck with rim options. Basically im looking for the mirror chromed polished low profile clincher 36h rims. So far got two options only:

    H plus Son TB14 http://www.tokyofixedgear.com/products/41-Rims/3798-H-Plus-Son---TB-14-Rims---Polished-Silver/ £55 each

and Velo Orange PBP http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/wheelsets-rims-hubs/rims/vo-pbp-700c-rims.html £37.50 each in Velorution shop

I guess Weinmann do/did chromed low profiles as well, but i cant find where to get them from.
    Any other options?

    Cheers
    Artz

  • Mavic MA2s. Choice of the discerning gentleman.

  • Yep, I've seen Halo retros at Tokyo fixed gear, they look lovely but not really low profile.. Cheers anyways. Trying to search where to buy Mavic MA2 from. No luck yet. Just called to my local metal polishers- so its £25-£30 per rim to polish anodised rim.

  • All the rims in this thread are aluminium, not chromed steel. You can't chrome-plate aluminium.

But yeah, Mavic MA2s are nice, I have them on my beater. Low profile and they can accept really wide tyres. If you can find them, that is!

  • Hey, chromed I didn't mean chrome plated. Obviously chrome plated steel rims would weigh a ton.. I meant mirror chrome finish aluminium rims..
The link for Mavic MA2 is for 32h version. I doubt that I'm gonna change my Campag Super Record hubs.
    Still searching...

  • They do occasionally turn up on ebay and the like, in 36h. I have some 36h MA40s (same as MA2 but in black) on Record hubs as it turns out, but they're anodized black with rusty eyelets so you won't want them.

  • If you can afford it get the TB14's. They are wider so should allow for a smoother ride and more road contact.

If you want 27" I have some nice NOS polished Rigida's in 36h.

  • ^ yeah, if the inner width is 5mm smaller than outer, then they should be good for 25-40c tyres. Double eyeletted, too.

    But gawd they are expensive.

  • i think 27" wont fit. what model those rigida's? they might do 700 as well right?thanks for the offer though...

  • here's a pic of my wheelset of TB14's with DT spokes and Campy hubs. Love these wheels!
ps: sorry for the crappy pic

Yeah, every time I'm in Tokyo fixed gear shop I'm looking at them... I got h plus sons chrome 42mm rims on my other bike and they amazing. Got offered Mavic MA2, need to have a look, if there's no scratches probably will get mavics...
Really interested if rigida has 700c chromed ones

FTFY. If you wanted to, you could strip the anodising and polish them yourself. A lot of work though.
