such that the handlebars could break when used on fixed gear bicycles for "trick" or stunt riding.
So its not the bars that are wrong, its the rider?

There is a slightly cryptic diagram on the Nitto website:

Dated July 2011 by the way.

I think i understand, they arent suitable for lo-pro's or abnormally long legged people?
-
• #5
reckon it's worth shooting tokyo fixed an email and asking whether they'd honour it?
-
• #6
bump
no one like their handlebars falling apart in the middle of a bar spinz -

I thought this thread would catch fire but it turned out to be a damp squib. (& I don't even know what a squib is).

well, maybe not that many owners? i think the nitto riser is far way overpriced - and if you really want to spend so much money on a riser, there are a lot more better alternatives.
but, here is the story, so far as i know: there was a very small margin being affected. to not recall all the risers, only certain distributors who got a delivery with that margin, are being notified. as a endconsumer, you should call your lbs or wherever you got your bars from, and ask if it was a margin from one of that distributors. then it will probably get replaced.
to end the confusion and to reassure customers, nitto has rechecked the design of the bars and will from now on sell it under a different name, so you know you definitely get a fresh margin.
and please remember: i am not a nitto spokesman, so this is only the word on the streets...

I only ever expect words from the street on lfgss. But, thanks for chipping in.

I've got the stainless version, I like multi-use components...
-
• #11
margin?
multi use components?
huh?
-
• #12
No sharp edges.
Closed, rounded ends.
Works for men or women.
Think happy thoughts. -

Ojaw - alright mate - thanks for that.
Multiburst, yes, what does that mean in plain english?

These bars are now officially re-called. This only applies if the bar has a separate 'band' around the centre of the bar at the clamp section. Bars that are one-piece with a lump and the centre are not re-called.
This style of bar is re-called:
We can swap all of the bars here at the shop (Tokyo Fixed) and we have stock of all colours as replacements.

• #15
Does one need to show a receipt or some form of documentation for a replacement?
-
• #16
No, just a B259. You could have bought it from anyone, anywhere...
I have to keep your old B259 to replace it with the new model. -
• #17
I think the bars on my girls bike Are B259aa...
-
• #18
Are Tokyo fixed still trading these?
-
• #19
They wouldn't be selling the recalled ones.
-
• #20
6/10. Not bad.
-
• #21
One more thing: I had cut down my 259AAs to 40cm, can I still return them?
I actually still have one offcut (the one were B259 is written on)I bought them second hand in London, but live in Berlin now. Who's responsible now? Nitto directly? EAI? German importer?
And: who is replacing the Soyo grips that I would have to destroy then?

I see BLB have a recall poster in their window, although it's handily placed such that it can't be read as it's blocked by a telecoms box on the pavement.
-
• #23
jetski - yeah, you can.
you don't have to have the b259 written on it, the 260s have the model number stamped close to the clamp section, so if its not that, its 259. -
• #24
Sorry it isn't in the correct orientation (and it's a terrible photo).

Mine separated today, on teh way to work! Nice, rolling bars, cool.
Nitto B258AA riser bars might break and they are recalling them.
Just found this message on the Euro Asia distributor website.
http://www.euroasiaimports.com/productcart/pc/viewContent.asp?idpage=3
I can't find any other references to this on the web, and I don't know how old this info is. Plus I am not sure if the EA offer extends to end users or only to retailers.
Anyone else heard about this?
I am off to try and check which Nitto risers I have...
