Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o need,
While thro your pores the dews distil
Like amber bead.His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An cut you up wi ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!Then, horn for horn, they stretch an strive:
Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive,
Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve
Are bent like drums;
The auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
'Bethankit' hums.Is there that owre his French ragout,
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi perfect sconner,
Looks down wi sneering, scornfu view
On sic a dinner?Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckless as a wither'd rash,
His spindle shank a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit:
Thro bloody flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He'll make it whissle;
An legs an arms, an heads will sned,
Like taps o thrissle.Ye Pow'rs, wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies:
But, if ye wish her gratefu prayer,
Gie her a Haggis! -

For those who don't know, Burns Night is the LCC in Hackney's annual fundraiser. Details of this year's event here:
http://www.hackney-cyclists.org.uk/bn11.htm.
The page for 2012 will be up soon.
If you want to go, book early to avoid disappointment. It always sells out very quickly.
You can also volunteer to help with preparing Burns Night, which means free entry.

I love the Corries, I do. Twas one of them what wrote http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flower_of_Scotland.
You wouldn't believe how few opportunities there are to express an interest in twee Scottish folk music.
As you were.

Is this to be a day or evening-stravaganza?
-

Scottish-themed ride?
I'll come! Though as I doubt I'll be any better at riding longish distances even by then I reserve the right, and will take the ridicule, of not doing all of it if I start dying on the ride. -

Is this to be a day or evening-stravaganza?

Why not arrange a simultaneous alleycat with the Scots?

i doubt this will be a long ride, but hopefully 0930 start, we'll have to re-name a few places ... was thinking, start central, head over to stamford hill and taking the river route towards olympic site and end with a nosh-up/lunch in hackney, if the weather is okay.
also i have texted Iain Spink about dispatching some of his world famous Arbroath Smokies to London.. this ride needs a proper breakfast start, not sure i can accommodate having such a small flat, but Smokies, scrambled egg, toast and tea before heading out.. or find a cafe that can do it.
