Maybe you should also get somebody along with a carbon speed machine for demonstrating progress. 6pt?
-
• #4
I can come and show them bar-spins and backwards circles. Then I'll teach them how to blog and how to attend magazine launch parties.

Just give me the nod if you need somebody to demonstrate falling off...

The after-school club have already learnt how to trackstand (with vaying degrees of success) and have taken part in a Bicycle Tag of Bike tag. I think they're doing quite well for initiation into the cycle scene.
Plus they've already seen 6pt do a hill climb on a "bare sick" fixie. -

Nobody has ever called my fixie "bear sick" :(

I've mentioned this to Charlotte. There are a couple of other London-based penny riders on here I think: darkpoint and kat something?
-

Katie, as Ludd says, other than Charlotte there's also kat on here, or you could try Joff Summerfield ...

See, this is why I love the forum. Within a couple of hours of posting an entirely selfish request for help, I have 5 awesome leads (thanks so much guys), a wonderful PM (thanks Charlotte!) , a not-very-funny stab at humour and a slightly more successful attempt.
forum love <3 -

Dibs the slightly more successful attempt...

Is this resolved yet?

what, who's funnier, tibbs or dan? :)
No, but it's waaaay short notice and most people have day jobs and the like! But I'm waiting to hear back from the Veteran Cycle Club and have had some very kind offers of visits at other times so if we don't do something this week then I'll really try to make it happen in the future.

If you can borrow one I'll have a crack at riding it. How hard can it be? :D

Two birds with one stone!

Although people generally think that part of my class is more adult oriented.

what, who's funnier, tibbs or dan? :)
You can't compare the two, different styles and material. I'm more Redd Foxx, he's err.....Bernard Manning?

Well thats you off my xmas card list.

what, who's funnier, tibbs or dan? :)
It's a bit like comparing pennies and farthings.
-
• #22
In that case, Tibbs is clearly a nine bob bit.

bit late to this but assume you're familiar with the awesome ctuk class resource "crazy bikes"? I use a lot and it ties in nicely with visits from a rider on an Ordinary. Used to have access to 4 bikes from the museum when I worked in Coventry...
hope u got something sorted tho.

Thanks Kat :)
Yep we did one activity which made use of a couple of the pictures, but since they're so small I mainly used enormous photos of a running machine, an ordinary and a safety on the smart board, then we talked aout how bikes were invented before cars and they haven't really changed much since. Then we watched an awesome video: check this out, its mental!

Hi all,
I run a primary school cycling project in Hackney and as well as learning to ride, riding on the roads, and some sports cycling and racing, I do classroom sessions on cycling that link in with the curriculum.
My year 3s are currently doing 'inventions' so I'm putting together a session on the invention of the bicycle and it would be so so awesome if I could find a really really old bicycle (pref. a penny farthing/ ordinary) to come and pay the kiddiwinks a visit.
I haven't got any budget to pay for someone to come but will make them a delicious fruit cake and the reward of smiling kids is quite nice too.
Preferably next Monday afternoon (28th November).
Drop me a PM if you can help!
Thanks millions!
