• I was hoping somebody here would be able to help out with this.

My mum has recently showed renewed interest in cycling after around 5 years not riding (having her bike stolen from outside work really put her off for this long) but she's decided that she wants to train and ride London to Paris as a goal, plus start commuting again.

We checked out Brixton cycles (really helpful) and really liked the 44cm Surly Cross-check she tried out "feels like im gliding" in her own words, but the price tag was much too high for us at £975. They recommended the size smaller since she was a little stretched on the 44. Checking out ebay I was outbid on a bloody 42cm cross check by 5 quid, and I don't think anything nice that size will come up for a while..

ANYWAY, tl;dr etc, I thought I could surprise her for christmas by putting a commuter/tourer together for her, so I'm looking for a 42-44cm frame. Maybe a cyclocross frame for the tyre and mudguard clearance, but needs to be in nice looking condition. I'd say we've got a budget of about 150 quid but would consider everything you show.. (for the frame not for the whole bike)

Another cyclist back on the road is one less car/ commuter squashed in the tube yadda yadda help the cause, ta

  • I have a Dawes Tekkara frame, very small, but may still be too big? includes cranks, BB, rear mech, all original, in good straight condition, yours for £30? Its in Coventry, could meet you at a train station or possible sort out a box and post it?

  • Or I may be pursuaded to sell my BSA 10 speed, cant remember off the top of my head the size. It's too small for me, message me if you're interested in either

  • I click for the sob story. I am disappointed.

  • I've a very small ally racing bike with sloping geomenty top tube (c-c is 43cm) that has mudguard eyelets and mounts for a rack. Currently with Sora 14 speed STIs and though the chainset might need swapping for lower gearing everthing else could well be fine for your needs. It's in mint condition.
    Had it on gumtree http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/47cm-small-mens-or-ladies-racing-bike-integrated-sti-gears-alloy-wheels-etc/87491080
    PM if of interest

Too bad, you cold hearted bastard.

@Simple - ta for the offers, but I think a 51cm frame would be far too big, I don't think she'd be comfortable on it.

I would have thought my budget would get a pretty lovely looking frame, it's just the size that's the problem.

  • saw this 44cm bike on ctc:

    http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=57109

imagine 44cms are pretty difficult to come by...

  • hmm, i might be mistaken in this and will have to make a change in scope in my search.

it seems what's labelled as a 42cm cross check by surly has a 52cm effective top tube length and a 44cm seat tube length... while being a little annoying this should make the search alot easier.

  • Ah joke apart, I wish you'll find one, I know how tricky is it to find good frame for us petite people ! Free bump.

  • I'm also looking for a v small racing bike c 44cm if anyone else can help.

  • i have this:
    vitus 979 campagnolo record.
    48cm though.
as far as i know the smallest size vitus built.
may not be what you after but i thought i try.

  • Thanks Sash, but i think it will too big for me.
