Australian pursuit is where Hippy chases RPM round a track arguing about who'll beat who at various international track events, upside-down.

Elimination: "Devil Takes The Hindmost" - last rider across the line every lap is eliminated, until there's just three remaining, who sprint it out
Points race: Long-ish distance (e.g. 50-laps) with points for being 1st/2nd/3rd across the line every 5 or 10 laps, then more points for the final sprint
Sprints: one-on-one
Time trial: one
Kieran: everyone lines up behind a 'ickle motorbike which paces them 'round and peels off with a lap-and-a-half to go for a mass sprint
Aus pursuit: no idea - could be the above (or is it like team pusuit but one peels off every lap...?) -

Aussie Pursuit is where you have a bunch of riders split evenly around the track, not just two and you race trying to pass the rider in front of you. If you do they are eliminated until there's only two riders left who then race to a set lap count.

A pursuit that you have to start with a desperate sprint then? Evil.

Imagine being picked off really quickly by some gorilla numb-nut with an explosive start and no endurance, who then gets eliminated shortly afterwards. That would give me the right hump.

Ride faster. Problem solved.

A good point well made.

Points race:, first 4 riders across the line at each sprint score 5,3,2,1 points. The points are the same for every sprint (including the last one)
Kieran: A blokes name
Keirin: as above except the bike pulls off with 2 1/2 laps -

Me and a mate have just booked onto a track taster from 1-2 if anyone else who's going fancies it? http://www.nationalcyclingcentre.com/a/revolution-taster-sessions-2

Just a reminder that a football match is on over the road and you can expect a lot of traffic in the area plus problems parking.

Great night at the racing. The Aussie pursuit was confusing. Hippy is right about this though.

For anyone that wasn't aware, I just thought I'd mention that this series is actually making it onto the telly, with the first highlights programme on this evening, ITV4 7 - 8pm.
Good to see ITV raising the profile of cycling, especially track cycling, at this level.

Great event last week...Cav and Clancy at the next one

Anyone planning on attending the next one?
-
• #25
only if I get lucky with a scratchcard...
Can anyone explain to me the different events in the upcoming Revolution event at Manchester?
There's an elimination, points races, sprints, time trial, keirin and Australian pursuit. I've not found a good resource anywhere online for a concise explanation of what they involve and I want to understand what it is I'm watching a bit better!
