Done it twice for the same girlfriend. First was a reconditioned dutch-style bike that she chose the colour of etc and the second was her first fixed build. She loves it. The only advice I would offer you is to involve her in as much of it as you can. Even when it's built and finished keep asking her how it feels etc. Bikes are ongoing projects.

Building a singlespeed for The Wife for her 40th. Frame and forks comes this week, oddly it's an Olmo and the only other Olmo I've seen in the flesh is ......mine. I'm certain curious and unplanned coincidences wil make great benefit her riding joy. Once she's broken the ubiquitous Brooks saddle in.

Mine didn't want a Brooks because she was worried about her lady bits. We purchased one called a Ldy - it's filled with gel...

You can get a lady specific Brooks. I know, my lady has one.

We did acquire one, but I stuck it on the seat post and she tried it but commented that it her lady parts were affected. The gel affair on the other hand is now like an old friend.

Slowly amassing parts to build the GF her first fixie, going with her fave colour of red for the frame and forks and all black components to keep it simple, fingers crossed she likes it :)

Does it count if they are going to be your girlfriend/wife/partner?
This one went to its new home this evening. Cyclefit was not carried out before the build, so a shorter stem and softer saddle are to be expected.
I hope it is an "ongoing project."

You are to be commended for putting yourself out there. Based on that bike and the obvious effort, if she has taste she'll ink you in.

It exudes taste, style and charm. She'd be a fool to turn down this "project". -

Lovely looking bike. I bought a pre (un)loved ladies specific Giant hybrid for my wife. She hates it and want's a "propper" bike. I'm guessing she means something along the lines of yours.
Not quoted your post but screengrabbed for future use...

My girlfriend has been mentioning more and more frequently how she'd like to have a bike so we could go cycling together. So, I'm just starting a little project for her (hopefully to be finished by Christmas.)
Who else has build a bike for their girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife/partner, how did it go down and is there any chance of some pictures? Are they still cycling?
I've started by getting hold of this:
So far, it has been stripped, taken off to the painters and I've started to hand polish the components I'm keeping. I now have the fear that she won't like it!
It's a shame you stripped it! Really nice as it is IMO.
I reckon bike building is the new mix-tape - Not saying it in a slagging off way mind! I'm as guilty as the next guy!

built a lovely bike with copper forks and bespoke paint job for an ex, it was a cracker but i never took a photo.
Now need to build one for my new partners as she is over the pains of childbirth and itching to get cycling.
I have an old retro sit and beg shopper i need to sell and replace with a slightly bigger sit and beg single speed number.
anyone selling? -

It probably is - the amount of time spent and stress it causes because you want to get it right is ridiculous.
I'd be happy to ride it as it is but, to start with, it has got to look pretty so off to the painters it goes. The cable guides on the tt are going to be replaced with cable stops underneath and I expect it'll need mudguards seeing as we live in the UK!

"DO YOU REALLY THINK MY ARSE IS THAT BIG!??"
(Ah, the frame I have is probably a bit too small, 'er indoors old peugot from when she was a teenager)

Well, it's back from the painters and now looks like this:
The picture doesn't quite do it justice - it's a metallic purple with pearl white head tube and bands.
